Glenturret distillery--which was know by the name Hosh until 1875--was founded in 1775, and is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland; and with but two stills it is also one of its smallest! The nose is malty with fresh fruit aromas, some herbal notes and a slight floral element. The palate is sweet and spicy - dried grass, leafy, floral and fruity notes combine. Finishes dry with leafy, bracken note.

This Lowland Distillery took its name from St Magdalene's Cross, once the site of a mediaeval fair and leper colony. The Union Canal which ran behind the distillery supplied the cooling water and served the distillery logistically. The distillery was closed in 1983 and the site redeveloped! Matured in Spanish Oloroso Sherry Butts, the whisky has been bottled from a single cask at cask strength without added colour (it doesn't need it) or chill-filtering. Because it is single cask the flavour profile will change slightly from batch to batch, but it is always stunning. Think heavily sherried Macallan Glenfarclas or Glendronach in terms of style. As the whisky is always from a single cask, the tasting note will vary from time to time.

Nose: Clean and complex with multi-layers of dried fruit, nuttiness and spices with some marzipan and vanilla touches to it as well.
Palate: Rich, oily and full with pleasant dried fruit and spices that linger on in the mouth plus a hint of fine coffee.

In the late 80's several casks from the early 70's were married together and placed in a new cask with the intention that they would be bottled as a 12 year old. The whisky was then promptly forgotten about for a further 20 years. Nutmeg and sandalwood on the nose. Spicy, rich and fruity on the palate, w/ characteristic orange. The finish is medium dry w/ citrus notes.
Something a little different from Glenrothes, a whisky with an age statement! 1134 bottles of whisky were produced by vatting in the late 80's casks of whisky distilled in the early 70's.
