In the late 80's several casks from the early 70's were married together and placed in a new cask with the intention that they would be bottled as a 12 year old. The whisky was then promptly forgotten about for a further 20 years. Nutmeg and sandalwood on the nose. Spicy, rich and fruity on the palate, w/ characteristic orange. The finish is medium dry w/ citrus notes.
Something a little different from Glenrothes, a whisky with an age statement! 1134 bottles of whisky were produced by vatting in the late 80's casks of whisky distilled in the early 70's.

Laphroaig 25 Year Old has been created from a balance of the sherried, oaky flavours of European Oloroso Sherry Casks and the creamy, smooth, sweet flavours of ex-American Bourbon Barrels. The cask strength of this batch is 45.1%.
From the Distiller: "Bottled at Cask Strength, it is a perfect fusion of these two most different styles of maturation flavours, made even smoother by the 25 years it has had gently maturing."
Distiller's Tasting Note
Nose: At bottling strength the aroma seems quite closed giving only a rich, sweet scent but a touch of water releases all the multitude of different flavours. The initial sweet, sherry sweetness is quickly followed by the time-honoured Islay peat tang. After this opening burst of flavour there is a smooth fruit ripeness that complements the tang of salt in the background.
Palate:The burst of peat that fills the mouth is quickly restrained by a sherry sweetness that slowly develops into spicy apple fruitiness.
Finish::Very long and warming leaving a distinct tang of Islay.

North Port served as a barracks for the Polish division, part of the 1st Canadian Army in WWII. The distillery was founded at Brechin in 1820, and took the name North Port from one of the gates of the walled city. Nose: floral, perfumed, dark chocolate, Armagnac. Body: medium/dry. Palate: dry, nutty, bitter-sweet dark chocolate. Finish: moderate w/ dried fruits and sweet malt.

This first 30Yr bottling from Glen Ord was released late in 2005. It is a relatively unknown whisky seldom released as a single malt. The distillery has gone by many names: Glenordie, Ord, Ordie and Muir of Ord. Nose: spicy fruit, sweet nuts, waxy & light smoke. Body: soft & waxy. Palate: sweet, spiced, floral & drying to ginger. Finish: nutty w/ a hint of lemon. Only 36 bottles in Alberta!

Finish: Silky, warming and curiously reminiscent of mint imperials. (Drier with water). Comment: A lot going on in this whisky; can't help thinking about a Mint Julep, though.
