This bold red is made from 100% estate-grown Sangiovese, grown at 430 meters in the Val d'Orcia, Tuscany.
The Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004, encircles the Podere Forte. The estate was founded in 1997 by Pasquale Forte, a visionary entrepreneur who has created a balanced system where every element complements the others, following the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. The old concept of the corte romana has been recreated on the 500-ha estate: a place where people, plants and animals coexist in harmony and sustainable self-sufficiency. Wine is the main focus, but Podere Forte is also synonymous with the breeding of Cinta Senese pigs, Chianina cattle and Suffolk sheep, as well as various other farm animals, all living on biodynamic feed. Podere Forte produces its own fertilizers and compost using vine prunings and fallen timber from the woods. The pigs eat acorns and chestnuts in the woods where they roam freely, the bees pollinate the flowers and aromatic herbs in the botanic garden where the hives are. The olive groves cover around 26 hectares and in 2020 production of the first varietal oil, from the Frantoio variety, started.

For more than a decade, winemaker Roland Velich made an intense study of the world's greatest wines of terroir with the explicit goal of finding “that thing”, as he puts it, that a wine must possess to achieve greatness. When he felt he'd learned enough, he set out to make an Austrian red wine that belonged in the same pantheon as the great Grand Cru Burgundies, the Northern Rhône and the legendary vineyards of Barolo. So began the Moric project. Its medium is Blaufränkisch, expressed through ancient vines in a challenging growing region, meticulous biodynamic viticulture, obsessive sorting and fairly primitive winemaking techniques.

Made from biodynamic (organic) Pinot Gris grapes, the wine is aptly named 'Graupert' which translates to 'tangled' or 'wild', referring to the vines which are allowed to grow free and wild. Free-growing vines produce bunches with smaller grapes with less juice and thicker skins. This produces greater aromas, gives extra layers of complexity to the wine and even gives the wine its darker colour. This is not your usual Pinot Gris. Look for honey, pear and almond on the nose and a buttery, creamy texture with lively acidity, and fruity, mineral weight on the palate. Great with poultry, rabbit, port or vegetarian meals.

Owner & winemaker, Rosalia Molina, produces these organic wines in one of Spain's highest-altitude wineries. Her mission is to make wines that express the typicity of DO Manchuela, and this includes the vineyards, the altitude and the varieties planted. The climate pushes the limits for grape growing because, at 1,100 metres above sea level issues like frost become a concern. The grapes tend to experience a large diurnal range that encourages even ripening and helps to retain natural acidity. Rosalia's vineyards are certified organic, she uses only natural fertilizers, promoting biodiversity by welcoming chickens, sheep and pigs from local farms to roam the vineyards freely. Grapes are hand-harvested and vinified as naturally as possible with native yeasts and little other intervention. The wines are then aged in clay amphora and some in French oak to give texture and complexity.
An aromatic blend of Muscat, Chardonnay and Grenache Blanc, with notes of lemongrass, tropical and orchard fruits, Mediterranean citrus and a touch of white pepper. Vines in the direction of Nolay, bought in 2014 – 2015 was the first vintage – from an 8 ha domaine shared with Sauzet – about 6km from domaine, vines on hillsides, over 400m with plenty of clay in this soil. Harvested about a week later than the vines around Chassagne – patience is always needed. – “It could go in the Bourgogne but I prefer to make two cuvées.”

The Sumoll grape varietal is difficult to grow but has a very alluring personality that rewards the careful patience of growers and drinkers alike. Sumoll was far more prevalent in the Penedes and the Catalonia region in the 1800s. However, many of the vineyards in the region were destroyed by phylloxera and little Sumoll was replanted afterwards. Today, the grape is making a slow but steady rise within the region as it becomes prized for its uniqueness and ties to the area.
