"This 2000 Ardmore is a great medley of farmy, earthy, smoky and sherry notes. We don’t normally go for whiskies that have been finished or re-racked. However, in this instance, the quality and richness of the sherry influence married so well with the fat, lightly peaty Ardmore distillate character that we couldn’t resist this lovely dark and gooey concoction. Bottled at natural cask strength, the finish is long and going towards tar resins, wood oils, mineral oil, strop leather and sooty waxes."

Seattle's Westland distillery has built quite a name and reputation for itself. In fact, even whisky (or whiskey, in this case) snobs have hunted down, collected, and coveted the Garryana oak range.
As for the casking for this flagship expression: virgin oak, ex-Bourbon, and ex-Oloroso, in a whole bunch of combinations of sizes and generations (first fill, second fill, etc). Some decently loud wood, if not necessarily able to tame this youthful spirit, at least has the gumption to toe up with its own aggression. It makes for a neatly harmonized chorus.

Port-finished young malt from one of Scotland's newest (and biggest!) distilleries. The distillery was founded in 2015, and this was bottled in 2022, so the math says this one is definitely still on the young side, but we all know how scarce Port-casked whisky seems to be. It also seems to work well in youth.
