Port Ellen has been characterized as the most elegant of the Islay whiskies. Sadly it was mothablled 26 years ago during a wave of closures. This particular bottling is by Douglas Laing who have seemingly managed to bottle more Port Ellen than all other independents combined. This particular whisky was distilled in 1979, & has been bottled at 26 years of age. The whisky was finished in rum casks.

Although founded in 1898 Benriach was only in production 2 years before closing for 65. The distillery started up again in 1965 & the oldest surviving casks of whisky date from the following year, 1966. This 40Yr Benriach is a marriage of two Hogsheads from that year, & is the oldest Benriach ever bottled. Each of the 265 bottles is hand numbered in a mohagany box complete w/ a miniature & flask.

Opened in 1825 by Captain Robert Barclay, it is the only distillery in Scotland that was founded by a member of the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame; its founder having walked 1,000 miles in 1,000 hours in 1809. He also is alleged to have been a good runner and boxer. Nose: very fruit, black cherries, apricots, vanilla and chocolates; Palate: begins with smoke and sandalwood, builds into sweet dried fruits and malt. Finish: caramelized fruit, leather and waves of cocoa!

The Legacy Series from Bruichladdich is a line of 6 limited edition bottlings from some of the oldest casks at the Bruichladdich distillery. Bruichladdich was purchased from Whyte & MacKay in 2000 after a decade of intermittent production. The older casks in the dunage warehouses are Bruichladdich's Legacy, one bottling of which has been released each year since 2001. This is the second last bottling in the series. Finished in both sherry and bourbon casks, this whisky shows fragrant vanilla, orange and other fruit notes.
