Opened in 1825 by Captain Robert Barclay, it is the only distillery in Scotland that was founded by a member of the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame; its founder having walked 1,000 miles in 1,000 hours in 1809. He also is alleged to have been a good runner and boxer. Nose: very fruit, black cherries, apricots, vanilla and chocolates; Palate: begins with smoke and sandalwood, builds into sweet dried fruits and malt. Finish: caramelized fruit, leather and waves of cocoa!
