The father-son team of Noël and Loïc Bulliat is currently in charge of the family estate. Loïc is the seventh generation to operate the domaine. There have been many changes with the acquisition of parcels since its creation in 1780, with vineyards now covering over almost 28 hectares distributed over eight appellations, including five “crus”, Morgon, Fleurie, Chénas, Chiroubles, and Moulin à Vent. Concern for the environment, respect for nature and the desire to express the terroir led the domaine towards the conversion to organic viticulture in 2010.

Brunello is of course no exception to this, with most bottles nowadays going for at least $100. This bottle from La Torre represents great value for money. It offers aromas of black tea, black cherries, and savoury herbs on the nose. On the palate, ripe red fruits and baking spice hit the front of the palate, with a finish of cranberry and violet tapering off. Fine tannins and a crisp acidity keep the palate wanting more.
Would benefit from a couple-hour decant.

Giovanni Davaz owns fifteen precious hectares of vineyards in Tavernelle Val di Pesa where he grows very fine Sangiovese, muscular Cabernet Sauvignon, and dense, powerful Syrah. Generous use of small barrels in vinification barely tame the exuberant, broad fruit quality of his wines, and the firm, large-scaled tannic structure in them makes them suitable for extended aging. Ripe and rich fruit gives this wine lush notes of sweet cherries and leather. Very food friendly, especially with herb-roasted chicken. Organic and vegan friendly!

Noël Bulliat and his son Loïc run this family estate that covers 27 ha in 8 different appelations in the heart of the Beaujolais region. It began in 1978 when Noël bought 4 ha of Beaujolais Villages straight after graduating from viticultural school. The grapes are hand-picked and fermented with the whole clusters intact. They undergo a cold maceration to preserve aromatic profile before being moved to cement tanks for semi-carbonic maceration, lasting 10 to 12 days using indigenous yeasts. They are certified organic and offer bright, expressive notes of red berries, minerality, subtle spice and lively acidity to tie it all together.

A grower-producer in the heart of Chigny-les-Rose, Giles Dumangin has champagne coursing through his veins. Dating back to the 1650's, the Dumangins have always worked with the vines of Champagne, but it wasn't until 1890 when Hippolyte Dumangin created Champagne Dumangin in the 1er Cru vineyards of Chigny-les-Roses. Five generations later, Champagne Dumangin is producing an array of wines, from their classic, feminine style to their newer, high-end cuvees. The Cuvee 17 is (almost) an equal blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, and the wine has become their calling card. Cuvee 17 is a classic style of champagne, but with enough character to set it apart from the big brands.
