Aberfeldy 21 Year
$124.79
In terms of age statements at least, the 21-year-old sits at the apex of the Aberfeldy family. It's no geriatric, to be sure, but a couple decades in oak has put this one firmly in beautiful, mature whisky territory. If we're being honest though, 40% seems a bit scrawny by today's standards. Despite that wee hangup, it's hard to argue that the flavour isn't spectacular. And if we're continuing with this whole honesty thing, the simple reality is that some whiskies are going to be a bit lighter (read: lower alcohol) but are still absolutely deserving of attention on the merits of intrinsic quality. This is just such a one.

Aberfeldy 16 is a richer, more full-bodied whisky. The extra time spent maturing, coupled with Oloroso Sherry casks, brings the honeyed fruitiness of Aberfeldy to the foreground."

Produced from a marriage of two Refill ex-Bourbon Barrels, filled in 2013, and bottled after 10 years at 48.5%.
Producer Description
"This year’s Autumn Edition of Equinox & Solstice is a small batch mix of two refill barrels of Aberfeldy, both filled in 2013 and bottled at 10 years of age at this series’ trademark drinking strength of 48.5%. This is a robust and characterful dram that showcases Aberfeldy’s typically ‘fuller bodied’ highland profile. Dry, mineral and waxy with bags of rich cereal character and a gentle biscuity sweetness underneath. Perfect warming whisky for Autumn. This year’s series features a set of wonderful original artworks by Skye-based artist Ellis O’Connor."
Aberfeldy 18 Year Bolgheri Edition
$181.99
Following on the heels of Pauillac 18 y.o., we now have a new wine-finished Aberfeldy. The producers tell us that "Bolgheri wines are robust, full of dark fruit flavours (blackberry, dark cherry) with an intense oak finish." Should be a pretty vibrant mash-up with the Aberfeldy distillery character. And just the mention of cherries has us salivating.
