Along with Inchmurrin and Inchmoan, Inchfad is one of three "Inch"es and a slew of other names/labels made by Loch Lomond Distillery. Also like many of the styles of whisky made at Loch Lomond Distillery since it started production in 1965, Inchfad gets its name from one of the islands within the freshwater lake the distillery takes its name from. This Boutique-y Inchfad is 13 years old and bottled at 49.5%.

Dubh Glas KWM Cask Sample

Before we get into this monster of a cask sample, here is a note from Andrew on the amount of whisky in this mini bottle:
"We are very sorry that one of the whiskies in this year’s Calendar, the Dubh Glas KWM Cask, is not 50ml as labelled on the bottle, but rather between 35 and 40ml. Having spoken to the producer I can assure you this was an honest mistake. The distillery ordered, and thought they had filled 50ml bottles, and accordingly labelled them as such.
For our part, though the bottle did look small-ish, we didn’t think to confirm the size. I thought that it might just have been thinner glass.
In any case, it was the 25th and final whisky put into this year’s Calendar and without it we would not have been able to complete the 2022 Whisky Calendars until Wednesday of this week (December 14), when one of the 5 extra products we ordered as insurance for this year’s Calendar finally arrived in-store. The 4 others, despite being ordered 6-12 months ago, have to the best of our knowledge never even shipped from their respective producers.
I am still excited to have this whisky in this year’s Calendar, it is the first time that many people outside of BC will have had the opportunity to sample whisky from the Dubh Glas Distillery. And further, this is a teaser from our own KWM Cask, which is maturing at the distillery, and will be bottled in the years ahead. It is also an incredible 75.4%ABV."

Buckle up and brace yourself for the whisky behind Door Number Fifteen in the 2022 KWM Whisky Calendar, because it’s gonna be a doozy. Weighing in a cask strength of 75% ABV, this is a KWM cask sample of a whisky we have maturing at Dubh Glas Distillery in Oliver, BC!
Founded in 2015 by Grant Stevely, The distillery celebrated its 7th Anniversary in June 2022. As part of the new wave of craft distilleries that have been joining the ruckus over the past decade, Stevely’s first product to market was a gin. The distillery’s Noteworthy Gin has won many awards since its first release and is still going strong while being joined by a Navy Strength version as well as an oak-aged bottling.
If you haven’t been to Dubh Glas distillery, I highly recommend the trek to visit. The distillery is a small building that houses both the brewing and distilling equipment as well as much of the maturing barrels of whisky.
Now, about this bottle in front of you that weighs in at a whopping 150.8 proof by USA proofing calculations – it is 132 proof by UK standards.
Back on June 7th, 2016, Andrew Ferguson visited Grant Stevely at Dubh Glas Distillery. Coming along with Andrew for his road trip was an empty barrel that previously held a Bernheim Wheat Whiskey that had been bottled as a KWM Cask. After Stevely put Andrew through the paces and a hard workday at the distillery, which I believe involved a small amount of drinking tasting, this KWM cask was filled with single malt new make fresh from the still.
This KWM Cask has been ageing away at Stevely’s distillery in Oliver since that day. Andrew and I have periodically tasted samples of the spirit as it aged away over the years, as Stevely would send samples or one of us would visit Oliver and check out how it was maturing. This is the first time Kensington Wine Market had a cask filled with a distillery to age. We have done this a few times since, with both Last Best Distillery and Eau Claire Distillery.
Thanks to Stevely, and for the first time ever, KWM is proud to have a true cask sample in our Whisky Calendar. This is a sample from our KWM Cask. The 75% ABV is the cask strength as of when these mini bottles were filled – probably about 10-12% higher than when the cask was originally filled in 2016. This is thanks to the water typically evaporating at a faster rate than the alcohol at Dubh Glas. It is good to know that the Angels are staying hydrated at the distillery and not just getting drunk from the maturing stock.
Before we give this whisky a taste, It may be prudent to blow out any candles or other open flames in the vicinity. Also, wear proper protective gear when sticking your nose in the glass. Once you have finished taking precautions and signed that waiver that relinquishes any possible liability that Dubh Glas Distillery, Kensington Wine Market, and other relevant parties could have, feel free to pour out a sample and let’s give it a taste!

It is back and exclusive to KWM in Calgary again, bottled at 58%. The Ileach Cask Strength is a mystery malt from Islay. In other words, the distillery of origin is a mystery but, look closely at the label, and you'll see a couple of clues: the distillery has its own bay, presumably passable on only the one side; it's water-front has a distinct appearance; and could that be the ruins of the Dunyvaig Castle on the far right? Lagging behind and not understanding our not-so-subtle hints on which distillery this could be? Fear not - this is what makes Mystery Malts so much fun.
