Mac Forbes has become one of the great champions of sub-regional expressions from the Yarra Valley. With a prime focus on chardonnay and pinot noir, Forbes set about mapping the intricacies of the Yarra through an array of prime sites that he leases and meticulously manages. It's bright, ethereal Yarra Valley red with a very moderate 11.5% alcohol. This is the 6th Batch of Aberlour was bottled released by That Boutique-y Whisky Company in 2018. It was bottled at 9 years old and at 49.7%. 3080 of the company's standard 500ml bottles were made in total. Though you cannot tell by the colour of the whisky alone, this bottling of Aberlour sure looks like it could be a lot less sherried than the official releases we see from the distillery.... Interesting.

"The Macduff distillery was founded in the 1960s and is kitted out with five stills, four of which have lyne arms that are rather oddly arranged, with one of the wash stills’ lyne arms being U-shaped too, just so they’ll all fit in the still room! They don’t release whisky themselves under their own name - they release it under the name The Deveron. This is why the name Macduff might be more familiar to you from Shakespeare’s play, ‘Macbeth’. We’ve even put one of the deleted scenes from the play on the label of our Macduff bottling. Press the stopper down to hear the director’s commentary from Shakespeare himself (probably a lie)."

Anne-Sophie Dubois is part of a new generation of rising star vignerons in Beaujolais. Based in the heart of Fleurie, Anne-Sophies' wines epitomize delicacy and finesse, with a style and approach aligned with the Gamay grown in the area. Having learned winemaking in Volnay, she draws from her experience there to elegant wines; full of depth and aromatic complexity, and without the over-extraction of fruit.
In addition to a Beaujolais blanc, Anne-Sophie produces three additional cuvées, the most accessible wine being the Paso Doublé Gamay, which is labelled as Bourgogne Rouge and meant to be enjoyed upon release. Her other two wines, l’Alchemiste and Clepsydre, exhibit considerable aromatic complexity, depth, and nuance on the palate. She refrains from using new oak and prefers to utilize cement vats and larger neutral oak casks for fermentation and aging. The resulting wines are renditions of gamay abound with fruit, finesse and exquisite balance. She is also an artist and is responsible for the very cool labels on her bottles. The wines are made in a natural style but in the best sense of the term (in other words refermenting or microbiological issues).
