Alyce was my Mom and she was the life of the party.
There is a section of vineyard right in the middle of the North slope where the soils are very heavy adobe clay resulting in the vines struggling to produce a crop more than 1 ton to the acre. It is a field blend of clone 777 and 115. This minimal crop yield tends to produce wines that are big, rich, "over the top" flavors; perfect for "Alyce". The South Slope begins at the highest elevation and the furthest South of all of the vineyards blocks. Soils are predominantly sandy loam and the vines are all from Burgundy clone 777. Dark cherry, tobacco, cedar, dried autumn leaves and iron lend this wine tons of character and depth.
Laphroaig Quarter Cask

Casks were much smaller in the 19th C. than today. They gradually grew as the industry did, the larger casks being more cost-effective. But something was lost in the switch to big. The smaller casks gave the whisky up to 60% more exposure to oak thereby intensifying the maturation process. Laphroaig has recreated this style by transferring still maturing whisky into quarter casks for finishing.
Petrolo Galatrona Toscana

This historic property dates back to 1834, when it was owned by agronomist Giorgio Perrin, owner of Petrolo and member of the Accademia dei Gergofili of Florence. He celebrated Sangiovese and this land, especially a spot called Campo Asciutto (now Bòggina), explaining how it was common practice at the time to plant “French grapes” in Chianti to blend with Sangiovese, in soils that favour specific varietals. The estate was acquired in the 40s by the Bazzocchi family who followed the tradition of carefully producing high-quality wines with utter commitment. The characteristics of this area add to its value; the land of Petrolo, where vineyards, olive groves and woods coexist, living side by side, forming a rich ecosystem that contributes to the perfect balance between the different grape varieties. The vineyard extends for three ha and was planted in 1990 on soils with a higher concentration of clay. Galatrona is the first Merlot vineyard that Petrolo planted, and it, along with Sassacia, is Italy's equivalent to first-growth Bordeaux.

It is one of the few Jim Beam-made Bourbons to retain an age statement on the label, Baker’s is a minimum 7-year-old Bourbon and part of the Jim Beam premium line that also contains Booker’s and Basil Hayden’s. Named after Jim Beam’s nephew: Baker Beam, it is bottled at 53.5% ABV or 107 Proof.

In other words, the distillery of origin is a mystery but, look closely at the label, and you'll see a couple of clues: the distillery has its own bay, presumably passable on only the one side; it's water-front has a distinct appearance; and could that be the ruins of the Dunyvaig Castle on the far right? Lagging behind and not understanding our not-so-subtle hints on which distillery this could be? Fear not - this is what makes Mystery Malts so much fun.
Osoyoos Larose Le Grand Vin

Osoyoos Larose is a winery found in the heart of BC wine country right in the Okanagan Valley that focuses on creating red Bordeaux style blends. 'Le Grand Vin', as it is called It is typically made primarily from Merlot, with the other primary Bordeaux grapes (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot) playing a supporting role in its makeup. The winery itself is owned and operated by the same owners of the well-respected Chateau Gruard Larose which resides within the Bordeaux region of Saint-Julien.
Here is what Anthony Gismondi has to say about Le Grand Vin 2016 vintage:
"Wow, wow, wow. When the merlot is over 60 percent in this wine, it has always looked better, and this year the 62.5/12.5/11.8/7.7/5.5 blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, petit verdot, and malbec is one of the best yet. The original single vineyard red in BC has nailed the 2016 vintage, with texture, dense ripe tannins, and a smooth, stylish structure that portends much more in the future. It has all the parts: red cherries, stony gravels, floral notes, and a broad swipe of south Okanagan garrigue. The balance is already in place and will serve this red blend for the next twenty years."
