Since 1670 our ancestors, followed by our great grandparents and grandparents, have extended the FERAUD & fils Estate to 22 hectares. Elvire, married to Léon Féraud was a winegrower and mother of four children. Paul, the youngest, worked the family vineyard since he was 14 years old. In 1964 he decided to produce his own wine and marketed 2,000 bottles a year. Laurence, the daughter of Paul & Odette returned to settle in Châteauneuf du Pape in 1987, having completed her wine studies and wine and spirits business school. She proposed to her parents to create an independent family estate of 5ha and registered the name Pegau. Fast forward to this century where Domaine du Pegau is regarded as one of the top producers of Chateauneuf and one of the top producers on the planet.

We sourced these wines a year ago after reading the rave reviews from numerous publications, in Germany and beyond. The Pinot Noirs are prized and will give Burgundy fans a solid alternative.
The Becker family owns more than 30 hectares and produces over 12,000 cases annually. Positioned on the very border with France in the town of Schweigen, the Beckers have witnessed that border shifting throughout history. Today, they have vineyards on both the French and German sides, at the edge of the Palatinate (Pfalz) forest—with 50 percent of their land situated on the French side in Alsace.
The soils in the area are composed of deep layers of shell limestone, with various topsoils, which in combination with the region’s mild climate, provide the ideal growing conditions for Spätburgunder. Hence, the logical focus is on the variety. As one of the pioneers, Fritz Becker Sr. was also one of the first winemakers in the region to mature his Spätburgunder in barriques.
Their most prestigious vineyard is Kammerberg, a steep single vineyard on deep marl and limestone near Wissembourg, recovered by Fritz Sr. in 1967. The old vines are mostly German clones and some French and grow on deep marl lime soils that produce powerful but also refined, mineral-driven Pinot Noirs (it is all about the dirt here!); St. Paul cultivated here in the 14th century by the Cistercians of Wissembourg, which had since become overgrown but the Beckers uprooted trees and bushes in early 2000 and planted Spätburgunder; and Sonnenberg, with poor limestone soils ideal for growing Riesling.

Alberto Siegel and his father founded Viña Siegel (now Siegel Family Wines) in 1980. They started planting vineyards in Colchagua and building the Winery in Santa Cruz. When Don Germán died in 1998, Alberto became the owner, together with his family. Initially, Viña Siegel only sold bulk wines to the biggest Chilean wineries, like Concha y Toro, San Pedro and Santa Rita. In 1997, Alberto decided to enter the bottled wine business and made the necessary investments to go ahead with this project.

Carm Douro Tinto

Carm is part of the Roboredo Madeira winery group, (as are our Vinha da Urze wines), a company that has been producing wine and olive oil since the 17th century. The wine is vinified in Carm's Winery at Quinta das Marvalhas in Almendra, in the heart of Douro Superior. It's a blend of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional, the trio of red grapes that form the backbone of many Port wines. It's aged in both French and American oak barrels for eight months prior to bottling. Look for expressions of blackberries, mulberry, and black cherry followed by the seductive flavours of black figs and licorice. There's a hint of toasted oak on the palate.

Mayu Carménère Gran Reserva is made from 100% Carmenere, a stunning red with luscious black fruit on the palate with notes of dried tobacco and espresso on the finish. The grapes are from the warmest part of the Elqui Valley located at the entrance of Vicuña at an altitude of 650m (2130 feet). The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and partially aged in American oak barrels. Best paired with hearty meat dishes and mature cheeses.
