Glenlossie is a whisky that you rarely see bottled as a single malt. This bottlings is from a single sherry butt and is exclusive to the Kensington Wine Market. Nose: burnt citrus, ginger snaps, candied orange, aloe and flower shop; Palate: really spicy, big buttery sherry notes, milk chocolate, candied orange, burnt sugar and young Christmas cake. Finish: drying, sweet, spicy and long!
Brora 30 Year

Brora is one of the most mourned distilleries in Scotland. Its peaty Highland whisky last made in 1983. This bottling got a 95/100 from John Hansell of Malt Advovate: This whisky has all the positive aspects of a very mature whisky (depth, complexity) without all the negative ones (excessive oak, one-dimensional). Very clean, but oily in texture, with honeyed vanilla, caramel, citrus (tangerine, orange, lemon), nectarine, olive brine, black pepper, ginger, cut grass, mustard seed, and just the hint of teasing smoke. Briny, spicy finish. Wonderful!

This new special release cask strength Glendronach is a heavily sherried expression. Only 1,013 bottles were produced, however if it is well received, the distillery may make it a permanent bottling.
Distillery Tasting Notes:
Nose: fruits, nuts and berries enveloped in a coffee and mocha glaze. Subtle sweet sherry notes sticky date pudding.
Palate: Very big and gusty, yet with perfect balance. Initial spiced orange flavours and rich old Oloroso sherry are met mid-palate with roasted almonds, coffee and treacle. Dry almond and the oloroso sherry notes are balanced with sultanas, chocolate and honey.

Ever wondered how the clan MacKenzie earned the right to the stag's head as its emblem. In 1263 King Alexander III of Scotland shot as stag with a single arrow while hunting, the infuriated beast charged the king with the intent of goring him when a quick thinking MacKenzie fell on the stag with his sword. In gratitude for saving his life the King granted the clan Macakenzie the use of the stags head in their coat of arms. Dalmore was operated and later owned by members of the Mackenzie family from 1867/1891 until 1960 when Mackenzie Brothers Ltd. merged with Whyte & MacKay. Every bottle features a stags head, with its 12 points signifying "royal"... The Dalmore Mackenzie is a port finished 1992 vintage Dalmore, bottled at 46% (finally) and packaged in a box featuring Benjamin West's Painting "The Fury of the Stagg" John Hansel of Malt Advocate gave the whisky 91pts. It is exclusive in Canada to KWM.

Dufftown is one of 7 distilleries in the town of the same name. Dufftown's tag line is that it is the town built on seven stills! Nose: biscuity, charred oak, nutty, a touch sulphrous and burnt hair. Palate: sweet, spice, lots of black licorice, clove, hints of rubber and sulphur. Finish: drying, long and warming with more cloves. Bottled from a single sherry butt after 25 years, 57.5%.

My Tasting Note: soft and fruity the nose rolls out in layers begining with peaches and apricots, toasted almonds follow, fresh cream, cinnamon toast and moist fruit cake right out of the oven; Palate: sweet, smooth, spicy and rich with soft caramelized fruits, sauternes wine, Manuka honey, black licorice, vanilla ice cream and Christmas spices; Finish: smooth with loads of sweet spices, hints of sherry and black licorice.
Kilchoman Autumn 2009 Release

Kilchoman is an Islay Distillery that opened in 2005. At the time of construction it was the first new distillery on Islay in over 120 years. It is a farm scale distillery with a production level equivalent to Edradour, Scotland's smallest distillery. The distillery malts some of its own barley on site, and grows a proportion of it on its own estate. Kilchoman is a distillery to watch!

Bruichladdich Octomore 2.2 Orpheus

Clearly one of the chaps at Bruichladdich has been brushing up on their Greek mythology. Orpheus is the hero who descended into hades and returned to tell his tale. Orpheus supposedly learned how to purify one's self from sins and avert the wrath of the gods. If anyone can tell me what this has to do with Bruichladdich or Octomore, I would be very grateful. And yes, I get the bit about the red tin symbolizing the fires of Hades...
