In 2006 Macallan partnered with Lalique to create this special vessel for its 50 year old single malt. Nose: cumin and maraschino. Palate: dark prunes and chocolate. This is one of the most unique bottles of whisky ever released. The Lalique crystal decanter was inspired by the Sherry casks in which its whisky rested 50 long years.

Benriach est. 1897 was long referred to as Longmorn no.2; hidden in the shadow of its sister distillery. For 65yrs beginning in 1903 the distillery produced no whisky but was kept open to malt barley for Longmorn. This Benriach is of the heavily peated variety 1st distilled in 1983. Nose: heavy smoke, citrus & malt. Palate: sweet w/ chewy malt & heavy spices. Finish: long w/ vanilla, cocoa & peat.

Since it was purchased by the Grant's in 1865, Scotland's second oldest family owned distillery has stuck to their guns. 95% of their whisky is sold as single malt (very little through independents), no finishes are produced, and regardless of the cost Glenfarclas focuses on European oak! The Glenfarclas 30Yr is the oldest product in their line with the exception of a number of bottles from their family cask series and the 40 year old they released a couple of years back. Depending on where you draw the boundaries of Speyside, Glen Albyn is either just inside, or just outside of it. To be frank I don't think it really matters what region its from so long as its good whisky. Nose: gently peated, with hints of toffee, coffee, & leather. Palate: initially the smoke & peat rule, but the latter fades, & orchard fruits take over. Body: Med. Finish: long, complex & bold.
