DISTILLERS TASTING NOTE: "The nose is dark and rich with hints of treacle pudding, sherry, sticky dates and walnuts. Stewed plums, ripe banana and chocolate notes are present too with a flourish of cracked black pepper at the rear. The palate has sweet sherry, more treacle and dates and a bitter dark chocolate flavour balances this chewy malt. Bruised red apple notes emerge before a pleasant wood spice and pepperiness. The finish has long and lingering wood spice and hints of peach melba."

A new development in the continuing adventures of the Laddie, the provocative second edition of Bruichladdich 20 Yr Old has been introduced. After twenty years maturing in Bourbon barrels, the Laddie was coyly introduced to spicy Mourvedre wine casks from Rivesaltes on France's Mediterranean coast. The resulting pink-hued 'flirtation', shows nuances of fruit, with just a hint of subtle spice.

The distillery has two different styles of whisky--peated and unpeated--and has released a range of finishes in both styles. This tawny port finish is in the unpeated style. Nose: crème brulée, honey, cinnamon and coconut in harmony with rich port notes and oak wood. Palate: Butterscotch, herbs, cinnamon, peaches and sultanas, infused with rich port and oak wood notes.

Once bottled as a peated malt under the 'Ledaig' label, named after the original harbour village the distillery resided in, it is now known as Tobermory, on the north coast of the Isle of Mull. This 9 Yr Old version is only lightly peated, predominately from the water source, and is aged in fresh sherry casks. Typically coastal in style, it has a definite bite and crispness to it, a real treasure.

Matured in carefully selected European and American oak casks which have previously held sherry or bourbon, the result is a delightfully smooth and sweet single malt. The 10 Yr Old is a particularly complex, lighter malt which benefits from a hint of water. Definitely worth a try.
