BIG BOYS SMOKING IN THE SAUNA
A very well priced 22 year old Orcadian single malt matured in a Refill Hogshead and bottled at 53.9%.
Profile: "Spicy & dry."
Panel's Tasting Note: "A boys’ night out of a dram packing a punch of cigar smoke, scented candles and heavy polished wood. One panel member was reminded of a stag weekend eating Mediterranean tapas and another of a Moroccan spices on Arbroath smokies. Pickled onions on the side! Heather and sandalwood smouldering on a wood stove with a mug of Mexican hot chocolate. After water was thrown on the coals a puff of hot sauna wood and more heather with tobacco leaf unfurling. Cured hams with mango chutney, then dried apricots and apple rings. Round the world in a glass!"
Drinking Tip: "With big boots on."
BenRiach 13 Year Peated Madeira Finish
$62.99
This is an older BenRiach release that is no longer available.
Latin for "smoky Madeira" this 13 year old heavily peated expression of BenRiach as matured in Ex-Bourbon barrels before finishing in Madeira wine casks. The whisky has been bottled at 46% without colouring or chill-filtering.
Distiller's Tasting Note
Nose: Rich peat reek with vanilla, cocoa, spices and tropical fruits.
Taste: An avalanche of bitter sweet peat and smoke, in harmony with citrus, butterscotch, peaches and cinnamon.
anCnoc Peter Arkle 4
$84.99
The fourth release in the Peter Arkle Collection is exclusive to KWM in Calgary. The artwork on the tube and bottled was created by Scottish artist Peter Arkle, as inspired by his visits to the distillery and its whisky!
From the Distillery: "The warehouses at Knockdhu have been guarding the secret magic that is happening inside them for many years. They don't just protect the liquid while it matures but actually add to that maturation process. anCnoc would not be anCnoc without these buildings."
Distiller's Tasting Note
Nose: This dram has top notes of cut flowers and lemon meringue. It opens up to honey sweetness, creamy vanilla and a touch of sherry spice.
Taste: Rich and firm-textured, sweet flavours of raisins and honey, followed by orange peel and fresh custard topped with hot toffee. The finish is long, sweet, spicy and full of dried fruit and caramel.
Cadenhead Small Batch Auchroisk 2001
$82.79
Bottled at 46% with its natural colouring and without chillfiltering, this 13 year old Speyside whisky is exclusive to KWM. Cadenhead is Scotland's oldest Independent Bottler, today it is a subsidiary of Springbank Distillery's parent company. Just 30 bottles have come to Canada.
Producer's Tasting Note
Nose: Wow a fruity banquet welcomes your nose to lemon and dried bananas with just a hint of soft white pepper and a rather tantalising note of coriander that opens up to a soft whipped white chocolate mouse with a pineapple drizzle coating.
Palate: Crisp topped vanilla pod creme brûlée with soft sweet sliced apple, juicy raisins with pineapple and fruit salad syrup. The next flavour delivery is a fresh toffee fudge.
Finish: Quite simply the finish is soft and soothing with a rich creaminess with vanilla pods and a slight hint of sweet mint to give the finish a truly lovely sweet freshness.
