Old Pulteney 12 Year

The 12 year old is matured in exclusive Ex-Bourbon American oak casks and bottled at 40%. The Old Pulteney bottle strongly portrays the herring fishing heritage of Wick, the home town of Pulteney Distillery. This well priced single malt scotch is dry and 'boney'. Medium bodied and smooth, it is clean and very easy to drink.
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: honey and salted caramel, very malty with musty old oak; big candied orange and ginger with cinnamon sticks; reminds me a little of a Manhattan.
Palate: creamy, malty, fresh and a tad briny; more salted caramel, candied orange and ginger, cinnamon sticks and some maraschino cherry; both the nose and palate have me thinking Manhattan.
Finish: light, clean, malty and maritime with fading spices and orange.
Comment: fresh, honeyed and salty, this whisky is excellent bang for the buck.
Distiller's Tasting Note
Nose: Medium to high intensity with a briny hint of sea air.
Palate: Dry, medium bodied and smooth, redolent of honey and cream, faintly salty with a slight spicy note and a sweet long-lasting finish.

Gordon & MacPhail is one of the oldest independent bottlers, they have been bottling and retailing whisky since 1895. Nose: is dominated by rich fruit cake & a smoky edge. With water the smoke yields to malt, tropical fruits, vanilla and the lingering Sherry notes. Palate: mouth warming, smooth, chewy tropical fruits. With water it becomes sweeter & honeyed, with a smoky edge. Finish: long, dominated by tropical fruits.

This malt whisky is a key component of Ballentine's, Teachers, and Old Smuggler. The distillery was founded in 1824, and produces an astounding 5,240,000L of spirit a year. Between 1964-1981 a pair of Lomond stills were installed to produce another single malt called Mosstowie, which though no longer made can still be found! The vast majority of Miltonduff is used in blended whiskies.

Palate: a classic dual between malt and oak; the first few sips are intense but your palate will adjust. Impressively complex! Finish: layered oak and honeycomb.
