My Tasting Note: Nose: a spice bomb, becomes increasingly fruity with raisins, figs and dates; andr tropical fruit too: canned pineapple, mango salsa and cantaloupe; Palate: the spices surge: cinnamon, nutmeg and clove; the dark fruits(raisins, figs and dates) along with some old leather and tobacco; every sip another wave of spice, the third with coffee bean and Cuban cigar smoke; Finish: drying and simultaneously mouthwatering and not quick to fade."

Wow - what a fine whisky! A limited edition 1977 Auchentoshan, matured full term in Oloroso sherry casks before bottling at full cask strength in 2010. Just 240 bottles of this were released. This whisky is a league above any ther Auchentoshan's. It is well crafted and more importantly, well selected - it has been released because it has been deemed ready rather than waiting for a set age, such as 30 or 35 years. The sympathetic use of the casks means that the sherry influence does not overpower the spirit, which can happen in older whiskies, but compliments it beautifully.

My Tasting Note: Nose: decadent, aromatic and soft; Highland Tablet, white chocolate Hershey's kisses, apple crumble and toffee chews; Palate: very sweet and spicy too; more Highland Tablet, surging vanilla, honey and sweet toasted oak; the oak is soft and round with some grassy floral notes, but they are manhandled by the sweet-spicy notes; Finish: toasty, tingling and drying with more sweet and spicy notes; long and pleasant. ONLY AVAILABLE TO COMPANIONS OF THE QUAICH UNTIL JULY 3rd 2012.

Bowmore 1964 Fino 2012 – 42.9% - Matured in American Oak and Finished in Fino Sherry – 72 Total Bottles w/ Just 8 for Canada (KWM has managed to secure 5 of them; 4 are sold) My Tasting Notes: Nose: incredibly exotic, toasted coconut, mango, papaya, candied orange and fresh squeezed lemon and lime; peaches and cream with gelatin candies (sour keys and coke bottles) and soft buttery pie crusts; lychees, grapefruits off the vine, white chocolate , apple crumble and sweet rhubarb pie; Palate: thick, chewy and every bit as creamy as I'd expected with a soft buttery backbone that pleasingly caresses the palate; the tropical fruits are still there, more mango and papaya with a little honey dew melon thrown in for good measure; the palate is spicier than the nose: powdered ginger and cinnamon that fade into subtle chocolaty peat; there is faint salty smoke moving towards the finish but it has toned-down enormously over its years in the oak; the palate comes full circle after a few sips moving back towards the tropical fruits and creamy notes, but pulling the spices and gentle earthy smoke along with it; Finish: round, incredibly soft and sweet with gentle toasted oak, clean salty smoke and dried and fading tropical fruits; creamy, fruity, sweet and long without any of the hallmarks of an over the hill whisky; Comments: the only shame about this whisky is that there are just 72 bottles, and that such brilliance takes 46 years to pull off!
