anCnoc is Scottish Gaelic for 'the hill', which, in English is rendered 'Knockdhu' and should not be confused with the other distillery 'Knockando'. The brand decided to market itself under the label anCnoc to avoid confusion. Knockdhu is located in the Eastern Highlands not far from the town of Keith. The whisky has in recent years been marketed heavily as a single malt, though for most of its life it has been primarily produced for blends like Haig. 40%

Marsala is like a distant cousin to sherry. Lord Nelson used Marsala to fortify the Royal Navy way back, when sailing ships sailed the high seas. Marsala is produced in the region surrounding the city of Marsala in Sicily. It's an intensely aromatic, fortified wine. Dry and clean. It's used in cooking and sauces but it's also very nice as an aperitif, or paired with Gorgonzola, Roquefort and other spicy cheeses.

The process of finding a product began in 1971 and it was introduced in 1974 as the first Irish Cream on the market. Despite attributions to Andrew Bailey of the R.A. Bailey Company, no such person existed. The choice of the name Bailey was based on branding. Baileys is a cream liqueur made from a base of Irish whisky. The Pimm's tradition is almost as entrenched in British culture as the cup of tea. Pimm's was invented in the 1840s, by the owner of an oyster bar in the City of London. James Pimm offered the tonic (which was a gin based drink containing quinine and a secret mixture of herbs) as an aid to digestion, and served it in a small tankard.
