About The Whisky Trail
"The Whisky Trail is a collection of young and old casks, taking drinkers off the beaten path of whisky. Only whiskies that demonstrate the most exceptional characteristics are hand-selected to be bottled as part of the Whisky Trail range, and with each cask as unique as a fingerprint, no two expressions will ever be the same. To ensure each whisky maintains its full flavour and cask character, we never chill-filter or add colour."
700 mlAndrew's Tasting Note
Nose: dry and nutty with canned fruits and fresh cut flowers; tinned peaches and pineapples; Quaker Harvest Crunch and Scottish Tablet; melons and citrus on the fruit side of things; Marcona almonds and salted macadamia nuts.
Palate: light, fresh, and fruity with toasted oak; a touch on the naked side, but all for the better, the subtle orange, lemon, and lime notes lead the way; it becomes sweeter with both liquid honey and corn syrup; still rather nutty, more Marcona almonds and macadamia nuts; angle food cake and shortbread rounds things out.
Finish: drying, toasty, and nutty with fading citrus fruits.
Comment: at 35 years, this is almost certainly the oldest Strathclyde I've ever sampled, and I should add one of the best; it is a spirit-driven grain whisky with no rough edges; light, fresh, and fruity, it is like a summer day in a bottle.
Evan’s Tasting Note
Nose: Dusty but toasty grain (wheat?), oatmeal, linseed oil, sunflower seeds, ginger alee, a touch of cinnamon, freshly cut lumber, model glue, and a squeeze of lemon.
Palate: Juicy Sprite/7-Up notes along with lychee, citrus, shredded coconut, and lemon tarts.
Finish: Light and prickly with citrus and oak notes on the fade.
Comment: Pretty delicious, though straightforward.
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Vanilla cream with toasted hazelnuts and almonds. Freshly squeezed orange juice comes through against notes of butterscotch sauce.
Palate: Delicate at first with jellied orange slices and buttermilk icing. Cake batter and lemon zest build with time.
Finish: Warm with toffee sauce and whipped cream and lingering dry spice.
