About The Whisky Trail
"The Whisky Trail is a collection of young and old casks, taking drinkers off the beaten path of whisky. Only whiskies that demonstrate the most exceptional characteristics are hand-selected to be bottled as part of the Whisky Trail range, and with each cask as unique as a fingerprint, no two expressions will ever be the same. To ensure each whisky maintains its full flavour and cask character, we never chill-filter or add colour."
700 mlAndrew's Tasting Note
Nose: oily, nutty, and rich; Fruit & Nut bar, beer nuts, hotel pillow chocolates, and Coffee Crisp; juicy orange, Craisins, and dried apricot; double caramel corn, sponge toffee, and old English butterscotch ice cream; a hint of decadent spice.
Palate: sweet, nutty, and toasty with fruit candies and warming spice; lots of sweet treats here, Crunchie, Fruit & Nut, and Oh Henry bars; more beer nuts, assorted Jelly Bellies, including the weird ones, and milk chocolate gummy bears; candied orange peel, Craisins, and dried apricot; pickled ginger, cinnamon sticks, and licorice root.
Finish: long, warming, and spicy with more sweet treats, heavy on the chocolates, nuts, toffee and fruit flavoured candies.
Comment: this seems to reinforce my perception that Benrinnes isn't interesting until it is in at least its late teens... and this one is interesting! It has none of the farmy notes found in younger bottlings, and it is full of the sort of sweets I rarely let myself indulge in anymore; if like me you approach Benrinni (the presumed plural of Benrinnes) with apprehension, you're safe here... it's a rather good one!
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Toasted hazelnuts with Swiss Lindt chocolate, warm orange marmalade and butterscotch sauce.
Palate: Wonderfully luxurious texture, like high quality olive oil. Freshly buttered popcorn and treacle tart. Lovely crisp pastry notes develop with a delicate crème anglaise.
Finish: The texture carries the rich sweet creaminess while a subtle citrus note seems to develop.
