El Enemigo Chardonnay
$45.99
Adrianna Catena is the youngest daughter of Nicolás Catena Zapata, the most famous name in Argentinean viticulture. She has lived and breathed wine since childhood. Today, Adrianna blends her experience in academia with her passion for viticulture and winemaking, dividing her time between El Enemigo Wines and Catena Zapata. She lives between London and Mendoza, and California (she is also an ER doctor at San Fransisco's busiest hospital). Alejandro Vigil has been Chief Winemaker of Bodega Catena Zapata since 2002, receiving the first 100-point score awarded to a South American wine by Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate (CZ River Stones 2016), and the highest rating ever given to a pure Cabernet Franc (Gran Enemigo Gualtallary 2013). He also holds the first 100-point score for an Argentine Chardonnay from James Suckling (CZ White Bones 2018). This is El Enemigo.
Georges Laval Garennes Champagne
$182.99
This tiny, impeccably-run estate in Cumières is known only to a select few connoisseurs of Champagne. You could drive through the village a hundred times without knowing it was there, and in fact, aside from a well-worn, barely legible placard with the words “Champagne Georges Laval” written in about three millimeter-high script just above the doorbell, there is no marking whatsoever to indicate its presence. Behind these simple, unassuming wooden doors, however, lies one of Champagne’s greatest treasures. Over four generations, Georges Laval began producing estate-bottled champagne in 1971. His son Vincent joined the estate after finishing his studies in 1991, and has been in charge of the cellars since 1996. Laval’s vineyard holdings comprise just 2.5 hectares, with two hectares all in the premier cru village of Cumières, spread over seven parcels. Average vine age is over 30 years, and the oldest vines of the estate are over 70 years of age. Rare and remarkable.
Terra Dominicata Domus Aquilae
$64.99
Domus Aquilae is a full-bodied red wine made from old vine Garnacha grapes. Carthusian monks founded this former monastery at the foot of the Montsant mountain range in the 12th century. The new owners - the Vives family - have restored the farm and vineyards, the very same land where the monks cultivated their vines, olive trees and orchards. The winery and accompanying luxury hotel are situated in the middle of the Montsant Natural Park, where you can immerse yourself in the landscape, silence and gastronomy of the region. The Vives family offers you a haven of peace in one of the most appreciated wine regions in the world.
Dagueneau Chardonnay Les Clous
$37.99
.This domaine has expanded considerably since the time Serge Dagueneau took on his handful of hectares. Today, there are 23 hectares of vines, of which 18 hectares are dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc in the Pouilly-Fumé appellation. Many of the vines are ancient, with some up to one hundred years old. Most of these vines are planted on Kimmeridgian marl, one of the classic terroirs of the Pouilly-Fumé and Pouilly-sur-Loire appellations. He is the nephew of the late Didier Dagueneau, a legend in the wine world. The L'Odyssee is their flagship wine, a stunning example of Pouilly-Fume.
"Fresh and round first impression with notes of citrus fruit and litchi. Good length and intensity on the palate with some aromas of undergrowth. Chardonnay takes us back to our Burgundian culture. This variety does extremely well in the clayey-chalky soil of St Lay. The grapes are hand harvested and pressed immediately. The wine is temptingly round, supple and fruity with a lovely golden colour. It would be a good match with salmon tartare, other fish dishes, veal with sauce or lamb." - Serge Dagueneau
Bachelder Chardonnay Wingfield
$70.39
The wines of Thomas Bachelder are inspired by his spiritual home – Burgundy – where the grapes he loves (pinot noir, chardonnay, gamay noir) originally evolved, where even the tiniest of vineyards are kept scrupulously apart in the winery, and then put separately, lovingly, obsessively into small, individual bottlings. His goal is to “keep out of the way” and let the best parcels and the most harmonious barrels come forward to liberate and define small patches of Niagara land. It takes a long time to discover terroirs, but the journey has its rewards.
A. Margaine Rose de Saignee
$147.99
The Champagnes from father-daughter duo Arnaud & Mathilde Margaine are a KWM exclusive, and they are exceptional. With vineyards based in Montagne de Reims, they specialize in Chardonnay (90%) although they also have a small plot of Pinot Noir. This small estate (7 hectares) was started by Arnaud's father (Bernard) in the 1950s and is organically farmed. The vines average 35 years of age and the Chardonnay is produced from a clone unique to the area.
Rockford Grenache Mataro Shiraz
$74.99
A soft, spicy blend that captures the rustic heartbeat of the Barossa. Moppa Springs is a place where green vines grow on one side of the fence and ripened wheat on the other. This country can be tough on grapes and vines but in this case, the Grenache, Shiraz, and Mataro give their best.
Carlisle Papa`s Block Syrah
$76.99
"Very dark purple-ruby. Nearly opaque. A heady, intoxicating nose of blackberry, smoked meats, and herbs. Smells deliciously savory. Quite smooth and silky on entry, flavors of blackberry and blueberry are intertwined with lavender, violets, and spice cake. Gentle tannins emerge on the long and persistent finish. Totally compelling and a wine of great beauty and harmony. Already drinking well due to its impeccable balance, enjoy from release through 2028" Winery
Glaetzer Anaperenna Cab Shiraz
$67.99
"I love what Glaetzer's inclusion of Cabernet brings to the 2017 Anaperenna Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon, giving it additional fragrance and length. Lifted aromas of mint, raspberries and dark chocolate mark the nose, while the full-bodied palate is rich and velvety but never heavy, framed by supple tannins that turn silky on the long, long finish. Showing great focus, energy and intensity, expect it to still be going strong in a decade." - 97 points, Wine Advocate
