Rockford Wines features high-quality traditional wines made from some of the best old Barossa vineyards. The winery and cellar door sales are part of a paved courtyard surrounded by stone buildings dating back to the early settlement of Krondorf. Founder and winemaker Robert O'Callaghan is a legend among Aussie winemakers and his wines have had a profound influence on winemaking philosophy and wine style in the Barossa. In addition to the small home vineyard, Rockford works in partnership with several independent wine growers around the Barossa, with vineyards in Kalimna, Ebenezer, Moppa Springs, the Eden Valley and central Barossa. This gives Rockford a wide variety of soil types, mesoclimates and altitudes for its grapes. Many of the vines are planted on their own rootstocks and range between 60–100 years old, giving intense, concentrated grapes that transform the wines. Winemaking is largely done using traditional methods such as basket presses, open-topped concrete fermenters and a 1880s Bagshaw (grape) crusher that was found on site when O'Callaghan purchased the property in the 1970s. Meinklang Red

Meinklang is a leader in biodynamic viticulture in Austria. The Meinklang vineyards are found in eastern Austria close to the Hungarian border. This gutsy red is a blend of Blaufrankisch (50%), Zweigelt (40%), and Sankt Laurent (10%) planted on sandy loam with shallow rocky topsoil. The grapes are partially destemmed into stainless steel where fermentation is carried out semi-carbonically. The wine then rests for six months in tank before being racked and bottled with 30ppm of sulphur. 12% ABV

The grapes are harvested at optimal maturity and then vinified in a purely traditional way and aged for 15 months in French oak vats and barrels. Henri Baylet and his son Michel acquired Ch. Landereau in 1959 and now operates 80 ha in both Bordeaux proper and the sub-region of Entre-deux-Mers. All their wines are bottled at the Château. It's an elegant red with aromas of red and black fruits. Round, supple, fleshy palate, with ripe red fruits and fresh tannins.

The name of this Primitivo Salento IGP, 7° Ceppo refers to the seventh generation of winemakers of the Taurino family. The grapes for this Primitivo wine come from 70+ year old vines in the Mandura Region. Primitivo itself originated in Croatia and migrated to Italy in the late 1800s. Within Italy, it is grown primarily in Puglia.
Primitivo is possibly more well known under another name - Zinfandel - and was made popular under that moniker in California. It was not known that Primitivo and Zinfandel were the same grape until DNA profiling was done by the UC Davis in 1994.

Ruxe is made by Andrea Obenza of Coca i Fitou, a highly respected producer based in Montsant. This Ribeira Sacra project is made from the Mencía varietal, a red grape that is gaining favour around the globe. The wine is made with the notion of conveying the mineral essence of the area by blending grapes from different schist soils found on the banks of the Sil River. An Atlantic wine, mineral, saline, aromatic, excellent acidity, tart fruits, soft tannins, herbaceous notes and sweet and savoury spices. The result is a medium-bodied wine with excellent length.. At San Leonardo they consider the family’s first real winemaker to be Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga, who was trained not only to produce great wine but also to manage the family's viticultural endeavours. With Bordeaux at the forefront, he was encouraged to pursue his healthy curiosity for the world’s great wines. This interest led to his decision to study oenology in Lausanne and to deepen his knowledge with research trips to France and Tuscany. The latter was where, on the San Guido property of Sassacaia, he began the long, endearing partnership with Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, who revealed all the secrets of the Bordeaux blend to Carlo and became his “oenological godfather”. Giacomo Tachis served as their consulting winemaker for many years before turning that job over to Carlo Ferrini, and in the Italian wine world, it doesn't get any better than those two. The wine is a brilliant ruby red with attractive depth. The aromas are alcohol and fruit-rich when the wine is young, mellowing with bottle aging into ripe plum fruit layered over a faintly grassy background note. Dry, soft and well-balanced on the palate, it reveals a pleasing bitterish twist in the finish. Ideal with rice and pasta in tomato or meat sauces, and filled pasta, as well as grilled meats, poultry, white meats and soft cheeses.
