In 1973, Desidirius Pongrácz was appointed Chief Viticultural Adviser at Distillers Corporation. During his 20-odd years in viticulture at the Cape, Pongrácz helped shape the South African wine industry through his intellect, insight, knowledge, innovation, vision and above all, fearless tenacity to pursue what he believed to be right. Pongrácz died at the age of 61 in hospital after a tragic accident while transporting Chardonnay vines to Uitkyk Estate. He was cremated on 16 August and his ashes remain in the wall of the family cemetery on Meerlust Estate. In an obituary Nico Myburgh, owner of Meerlust at the time, referred to Pongrácz as “a true gentleman and good friend”.

In their own words: It's been 30 years since Gerhard and Brigitte Pittnauer took over the winery. With only 3.8 hectares of vineyards, which Gerhard had inherited from his parents, we took the proverbial leap into the deep end. In 1998 we joined Pannobile - a well-known group of winegrowers from the region. Through the family dynamic and the lively exchange of opinions within Pannobile, we grew and increased the complexity of our wines. The construction of the striking and individually designed production hall in the middle of the vineyards in 2001 enabled a "quantum leap" in terms of quality and quantity. In 2006 we began converting to biodynamic viticulture - this is also when our winemaking shifted to an even more minimalist approach. True Colours Cava

True Colours is a Cava which was originally created to support LGBTQ+ programs in Scandinavia. It is imported into Alberta by Redback Wine Imports, who has committed to donating $10 from every case sold to two great local programs: Calgary Pride and HIV Community Link.
Like most Cava, this sparkling wine is produced in Penedes, within the Catalonia region of Spain.

True Colours was initially created for the Swedish market by Altia Sweden, in conjunction with the Cava producer Sumarrocca. It's a high-quality sparkling wine made in the metodo tradicional style (much like Champagne) from Xarello, Parellada and Macabeo, along with a small amount of Chardonnay. The palate shows a core of stone fruits, citrus and minerals with a toasty brioche finish.
