Peter Lauer Feils No 13 GG 2021
$59.99
This wine estate in Ayl has vineyards along the best steep slopes on the Saar. In addition to the famous Ayler Kupp, they cultivate two other important vineyards in the Mosel region: the Saar Feilser directly above the river and the steeply sloping vineyard Schonfels, a little farther upstream. Recently, they also replanted and recultivated the now forgotten Lambertskirch, just a stone’s throw from Schonfels.
These white wines have been among the best in the Saar for many years. Since 2013, they have been a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates). The wines from VDP.GROSSEN LAGEN® in the dry and off-dry styles are particularly special.
Seebrich Hipping Spatlese
$35.99
The winery was founded in Nierstein in 1783 and has been family-owned ever since. Knowledge, care, the learned craft, dedication, and passion have since shaped this estate. Their top priority is to focus on the essential, in their words: "To produce high-quality wines from high-quality grapes, by consciously dealing with nature. The focus is always on the desire to preserve all the ingredients that a grape develops. This care and the experience over decades are reflected in the quality of the wines". Heinrich Seebrich Senior converted the estate completely to viticulture in the 1950s. Since 1985, the estate has been run by Heinrich Seebrich Junior, who is assisted by his son Jochen. The vineyards cover 11 hectares in some of the best Nierstein vineyards, including the highly regarded Hipping site, the source for this wine.
Mosbacher Forster Ungeheuer Spatlese
$63.99
In 1921 Richard Mosbacher Snr. (1898-1977) founded the current estate together with his sisters and named it after their father Georg: 'Weingut Georg Mosbacher Erben' (Wine estate of Georg Mosbacher's heirs). The curved 'M' which decorates their wine labels up to this day goes back to these first years. Richard Mosbacher Jnr. took over responsibility for the cellars when his father Richard - a declared anti-Nazi - was appointed mayor by the Americans after the end of the Second World. The winery now produces some of the finest wines in the Pfalz and all of Germany for that matter. The grapes for this wine are grown on a south and southeast-facing vineyard, 60% of it slopes up towards the edge of the forest, while 40% is on the lower slopes, on soils composed of sandstone with limestone outcrops and basalt.
Feudi di Romans Sauvignon d`Isonzo DOC
$30.99
"Feudi di Romans is a winery located on the Isonzo plain in Friuli. The vines for this wine are grown in vineyards on the left bank of the Isonzo River, which is closer to the sea. This proximity provides a benefit of warm breezes from the Adriatic Sea combined with cool Alpine breezes from the Carnic and Julian Alps. This is a kind of natural air conditioning process that gives Friulan wines, particularly the white ones, great character. The result is that the grapes tend to ripen slowly and evenly," according to the importer. " Notes of apricot and citrus mean this well-priced beauty will pair well with seafood dishes and creamy pastas.
Domaine du Haut Bourg Muscadet 2014
$36.99
Located in the heart of the Appellation Muscadet Côtes de Grandlieu, four generations of winegrowers built the Domain du Haut Bourg. The first vine was planted in 1945, and today, the surface of the vineyard reaches 40 hectares.
The vineyard is entirely located in the town of Bouaye. The soil mainly contains mica schist, granite and sand. It gives good balance and richness to the wines. The lac de Grandlieu (south), the Loire river (north) and the low altitude (from 15 to 25 meters) create a microclimate characterized by low-temperature differences between day and night. This phenomenon allows an early harvest.
Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Spatlese
$131.99
There’s a reason these wines are so beloved. Part of it is that they’re so scarce; the estate is all of 4.2 hectares with no desire to expand. Part of it is the wines themselves; they’re crazy delicious and border on perfection from vintage to vintage. They capture the very essence of Mosel riesling in a way very few can. Since 2015, Christoph Schaefer and his wife Andrea have run this storied family winery in Graach. Their winemaking philosophy is not much different than that of Christoph’s father or grandfather. The focus is not on numbers or analytics, but on how the grapes taste. From harvesting each plot to the fermentations with natural yeast, all the way through bottling, everything is done by taste and feel.
Synchromesh Riesling
$34.99
Syncromesh is a boutique, family run winery that focusses on exploring their unique and complex vineyard blocks through the lens of Riesling and Cabernet Franc. They farm over 30 acres of vines ranging from the North end of Naramata to the Golden Mile in Oliver with the bulk of our vineyards situated on 107 acres in Okanagan Falls. They practice a holistic philosophy in both farming and winemaking, meaning no synthetic inputs and following organic methods. Wines are fermented naturally to capture the expression of each property and vineyard block in it's purest form.
Meinklang Graupert Pinot Gris
$41.99
Made from biodynamic (organic) Pinot Gris grapes, the wine is aptly named 'Graupert' which translates to 'tangled' or 'wild', referring to the vines which are allowed to grow free and wild. Free-growing vines produce bunches with smaller grapes with less juice and thicker skins. This produces greater aromas, gives extra layers of complexity to the wine and even gives the wine its darker colour. This is not your usual Pinot Gris. Look for honey, pear and almond on the nose and a buttery, creamy texture with lively acidity, and fruity, mineral weight on the palate. Great with poultry, rabbit, port or vegetarian meals.
Quinta Escrita Douro White
$34.99
One of the Douro's top producers of table wines! This wine is a blend of regional grapes, including Rabigato, Verdelho, Alvarinho, and Viognier. While the Douro is particularly renowned for its Ports, of course, it is also home to many fantastic table wine producers, such as Rui Roboredo Madeira, the maker of this white blend. Serve chilled with seafood, maybe a plate of grilled calamari with oregano.
Producer Description
"Quinta da Pedra Escrita estate is located in Freixo de Numão - Douro Superior, with an average altitude of 575 meters. The windy and dry soils of the Estate are predominantly of granite, sandy and very poor in nutrients. Here I grew my first vineyards, always believing that the granite soils give us wines with highly complex aromas and great longevity, like in the old times."
- Rui Roboredo Madeira, owner and winemaker
