The Le Clos des Cazaux estate has been a family property focused on viticulture for five generations since Gabriel Archimbaud, an ancestor, was one of the first to produce wines from Vacqueyras in 1947. It is now owned and operated by brothers Jean-Michel and Frédéric Vache. They farm 35 hectares, 20 in Vacqueyras and another 15 in Gigondas. They own mostly low-yielding hillside vineyards, fashioning high-quality white wines, rosés, and red blends. Their Gigondas vineyards are situated in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail massif range that has been in the family since the 1950s. This very special terroir benefits from the solar power of the southern slope, balanced by the cool nights at higher altitudes, mostly on clay soils. The reds are blended primarily from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. however, they include lesser-known grapes such as Aubun, Counoise, Cinsault, Muscardin and Carignan. The white wines mainly employ old-vine Clairette, complemented by Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and a little Viognier. We just received five new wines from Cazaux.
Bulliat Moulin a Vent

Noël Bulliat and his son Loïc run this family estate that covers 27 ha in 8 different appelations in the heart of the Beaujolais region. It began in 1978 when Noël bought 4 ha of Beaujolais Villages straight after graduating from viticultural school. The grapes are hand-picked and fermented with the whole clusters intact. They undergo a cold maceration to preserve aromatic profile before being moved to cement tanks for semi-carbonic maceration, lasting 10 to 12 days using indigenous yeasts. They are certified organic and offer bright, expressive notes of red berries, minerality, subtle spice and lively acidity to tie it all together.
Bulliat Beaujolais Blanc

The father-son team of Noël and Loïc Bulliat is currently in charge of the family estate. Loïc is the seventh generation to operate the domaine. There have been many changes with the acquisition of parcels since its creation in 1780, with vineyards now covering over almost 28 hectares distributed over eight appellations, including five “crus”, Morgon, Fleurie, Chénas, Chiroubles, and Moulin à Vent. Concern for the environment, respect for nature and the desire to express the terroir led the domaine towards the conversion to organic viticulture in 2010.
This crisp and lively Chardonnay seems purpose-built to convert anybody still firmly entrenched in the ABC (Anything But Chardonnay) movement. As the name Sur La Granit implies, this organic white wine boasts plenty of minerality and citrus zing to keep things interesting. Meerendal’s wine heritage started in 1702, when sixty thousand vines were planted on the current site. The Coertze family purchased the estate in 2004 and in doing so became became part of the prestigious history of the region. The property is situated close to Cape Town in aicool- climate location (by SA standards) with fertile and predominately clay soils. The variety of elevations and orientations of the landscape, close proximity to the ocean with constant winds and a Mediterranean climate, makes the terroir ideal for cultivation of grapes. The original cellar was built in 1943 but has been thoroughly modernized in recent years. Jed Steele is a pioneer in California's wine world, starting his career in 1974 and striking out on his own in 1991, eventually opting to make his wines in Lake County (just north of Napa Valley) where vineyards were considerably more affordableSteele's Cuvee Zinfandel is made from grapes grown in Lake and Mendocino County. Steele Wines purchased this vineyard in Mendocino County from the Pacini family in 1998, but it was originally planted in 1940. While they have replaced some of the vines, many of the old vines still remain. They are dry-farmed due to their location and result in intensely flavoured wines. The ripe bramble fruit is accompanied by spice, cocoa and vanilla, bolstered by American oak. While it is full-bodied, the tannins are smooth and ripe.

In the 1920s, the Daddi family purchased the castle and its surroundings, and in their attentive care, it would remain for almost 100 years. Francesco Daddi took the reins of the family estate in 1997 and worked tirelessly at making incremental improvements, not the least of which was the return to the organic viticulture of his ancestors. He also worked closely with renowned architect Alessandro Loni Coppedè to restore crumbled portions of the castle and the gardens to their former glory. Francesco is mild-mannered and affable, the very definition of a gentleman. But he harbours a perfectionist streak that has led to world-class wine. The vineyards surround the Castello at altitudes ranging from 300 to 500 meters, with south and southwest exposure, and marl and chalk soils. They grow primarily Sangiovese, the most vital grape to Tuscany, along with small plots of other native varieties. The vines’ excellent exposure combined with the deftly tempered use of oak in the cellar makes for formidable incarnations of Chianti Classico, structured and powerful yet subtle and grounded.
