Old Orkney Malt 21 Year
$614.99
52.9% - 2003 Refill Hogshead / 1999 First Fill ex-Bodega Sherry Butt
89.18 points Whiskybase
Producer Description
"This is our third official Old Orkney bottling. A multi-vintage, small batch 21 year old Orkney single malt, bottled at natural cask strength with a beautiful and rich sherrywood influence. We married together equal parts Orkney Malt from two different casks. First, a 2003 plain oak refill hogshead, second, a 1999 1st fill ex-bodega sherry butt. The whisky from these two casks was combined and married in a 2nd fill sherry butt for at least six months, before being bottled at natural cask strength. The result is a big, very robust and well-sherried Orkney single malt, with a very rugged, drying and salty sherry profile, underpinned by a gentle thread of Orcadian peat smoke. Old school and hugely characterful Orkney single malt!"
About the Old Orkney Brand
"Very early on in the Decadent Drinks story, Angus had the idea to see if he might be able to buy the historic, but long dormant, Old Orkney brand. AKA: 'Double O'. After all, nothing ventured, nothing gained. The reason for this is that one of the big influences upon Angus' approach to bottling and branding, was the old 'Double O.O.' brand. It was originally the bottling brand of Stromness Distillery on Orkney, which sadly closed in 1928. After that time the brand quickly fell into dormancy and was used only very sporadically in the intervening decades."
Whisky Sponge Ben Nevis 1996 Ed.58B
$624.99
The Whisky Sponge Label returns from the dead! Only to be unceremoniously killed off once more directly after this bottling. 55% ABV Ben Nevis from a 2nd fill sherry butt filled in 1996.
Producer Description
"After a very long gap, Whisky Sponge Edition No.58b is finally here. It's rather fitting that this will be the very last Sponge bottling we'll release. Forever. (Probably).
This is the second half of the same butt of Ben Nevis 1996 we bottled as Edition No. 58a, only this one has been finished in a 2nd fill sherry butt for just over two years. We bottled it with even slighter reduction this time, at 55%. It tastes like Optimus Prime after an intense workout while wearing a sheep wool cardigan in a cosmic potting shed."

"‘Mr George’ joined his father, John, at the family business almost a century ago and became a key advocate of single malt whisky at a time when most whisky went into blends. ‘The father of single malt’ as he’s been called, George Urquhart was a true pioneer and instrumental to the success and popularity of single malt whisky. The fifth and final edition in the Legacy – a Glen Grant from 1954 – exemplifies his philosophy and spirit.
"This fifth and final release in the ‘Mr George’ Legacy Series pays tribute to Mr George Urquhart’s unrelenting desire to create the perfect dram. Referred to by renowned whisky expert, Charlie MacLean as ‘the father of single malt’, ‘Mr George’ was fascinated by the interaction of spirit, cask and time. This exceptional single malt – limited to 130 bottles in celebration of our 130th anniversary – is a fitting tribute to a lifetime’s work which endures today at Gordon & MacPhail."
