Tomintoul 16 Year
$136.99
This Tomintoul 16 Year Old was featured on Day 2 of our 2021 KWM Whisky Calendar.
Tomintoul is one of the many Scottish distilleries that used to tack on the name Glenlivet to its distillery name as a sign of quality. Fittingly it is only a few miles from the fabled Glen. Its 16 year is a soft, easy-going and pleasant expression that was matured in American Oak casks.
Weihenstephaner Dunkel
$5.69
Supple, malty and mellow. Its harmonious flavour is the great strength of this dark wheat beer. A good accompaniment to hearty German style meals. Founded nearly 1000 years ago as a Benedictine monastery brewery, then becoming the Royal Bavarian State Brewery. The world's oldest existing brewery, it is located in Freising. A unique combination of tradition, custom, and modern science, gives the brewery its incomparable identity and permits it to brew beers of the highest quality. Class, not mass, a description of their corporate philosophy.
Dieu Du Ciel Herbe a Detourne 4 pk
$18.49
This Dieu de Ciel seasonal edition is a Abbey style tripel, hopped with Citra hops. It is orange-golden coloured, with an aromas of hops and tropical fruits. It has a pronounced citrus bitterness with a moderate sweetness and slight alcoholic warming.
Johnnie Walker Double Black
$82.99
Globally launched in 2010 - the Double Black takes the concept of the original Johnnie Walker Black Label and amps up the smoke and richness. 40% ABV. On top of using a larger amount of younger whisky in the blend to give a more full and concentrated profile, the Caol Ila portion of the mix is apparently bumped up to a slightly larger percentage than what is in the regular Black Label. More heavily charred casks are also used to provide this bolder flavour profile.
Clynelish Distillers Edition
$104.99
Only 60 bottles have come into Alberta and KWM has snagged 30 of them! This Oloroso Seco finished Clynelish has been bottled at 46%. My tasting note: "Nose: Orange notes, orange citrus, candied orange and dried orange peel; the waxy honeyed notes Clynelish is famous for come out with patience and some ginge spice; Palate: creamy and spicy with more candied orange, orange peel, dried ginger and thick-waxy-creamy-unpasteurized honey; the spices take over on the second sip with some dried fruits; Finish: coating, waxy and spicy fruits!"
Tomintoul 12 Year Port Wood
$80.99
My Tasting Note: Nose: mulled wine, wet leather, dark chocolate shavings and cooked raisins; floral heather-honey-and undertones of American oak can be found below the port notes; Palate: very earthy-musty, like a Dunnage floor warehouse; medium dark chocolate notes are present but a little thin; faint tannins, shoe leather, candied fruits and more mulled wine emerge in this relatively dark palate; Finish: drying with a little bit of spice, the chocolate, fruits and everything but the leathery tannins and oak have faded away.
Villa Matilde Aglianico
$32.99
Villa Matilde founder Francesco Paolo Avallone set out to bring this ancient vineyard back to life, spending a decade rejuvenating and re-discovering the land's grapes. Some have called his quest "vineyard archeology!" )Made from 100% Aglianico, this well-priced red shows a brilliant red with purple reflections. On the nose, you'll find notes of spice, blackberries and ripe, red fruit. The palate is full, velvety and well-balanced.
De Ranke Kriek
$19.99
De Ranke Kriek is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic Brewery Girardin. It is unfiltered and unpasteurized. The aroma is sour cheery with some yeast. The palate has the sour cherry again, with a hint of sweetness and hop bitterness. The De Ranke brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer's Gold varieties of hops.
De Ranke Guldenberg Noir De Dottignies
$19.99
The heaviest ale produced by De Ranke. It has a very rich taste, coming from the six different kinds of malt used in the brewing process. These malts also give it that rich, dark, nearly black colour. The royal doses of Challenger and Saaz hops bring the typical balance between sweet and bitter.
