They're one of the true vanguard protecting the legacy of sherry maturation in the Scotch whisky world and, sadly, there seems to be fewer and fewer distilleries able to produce in this style with each passing year. In short, we're pretty fortunate Tamdhu is holding standards high. To say we were excited for the arrival of the 18-year-old is an understatement. This one has been on our radar since first whispers made it over here. Hate to do it, but we've gotta limit this one to one-per-(customer/family/household) for now.

"Tamdhu only matures in the finest Oloroso Seasoned Sherry Casks sourced from Spain, so when a small selection of these fine casks came of age, the time was right for the distillery to bring them together to craft a very limited 18-Year-Old release. This scarce wood bears two great gifts: colour and taste. Tamdhu 18 Year Old’s deep copper hue is developed by the cask, nothing more – and each drop owes its rich, complex taste to its home of over a decade and a half."

The 2022 Highland Park Cask Strength, Edition No. 3, was created from whiskies matured in first fill American and European oak sherry seasoned casks as well as a small quantity of refill casks, before bottling at an impressive 64.1%.

"This third release has been created using an expertly balanced combination of three cask types – first-fill sherry seasoned American and European oak casks and a smaller quantity of refill casks for balance and depth. Using a higher proportion of Orkney peated malt, our Master Whisky Maker, Gordon Motion, has achieved an intensely smoky character, coming through first on the nose with aromas of smouldering peat and lightly charred oak, balanced by honey-glazed lemons and crushed aniseed.
"Discover what best suits your palate by experimenting with the amount of water you add as you release this whisky’s distinctive notes of ripe mango, cloudy heather honey and whipped vanilla cream with a hint of aromatic violet. "We’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to That Boutique-y Brandy/Calvados Company with this 21 Year Old Calvados. This is a particularly intriguing Calvados from Christian Drouin. The story for this one begins at the very end of the year 2000, when the spirit was distilled. Distilled under Appellation Calvados Pays D’Auge Contrôlée, meaning the ciders may contain a maximum of 30% perry pears, and pot still distillation is mandatory. A sherry cask full of the spirit was sent over to Bristol for maturation (similar to how some Cognac is "early landed"). This is a real treat for any Calvados aficionado, one of only eight ‘'early landed' casks ever to be produced. Since that time, laws have changed meaning Calvados can no longer be aged outside of Normandy - so this sort of thing will not happen again, making these bottles extremely rare!"
About the Label
"Our label, designed in-house, designer Toby Dowling has a number of stories tied up in it, as you’d expect. The Lionheart is a reference to Coeur de Lion. The distillery has the trademark for spirits, but a little while back, that budget Camembert brand issued them a cease and desist so they don't use it any more. The route is the route the cask took, Ms Sherry Wood is obvious, and, the stamp shows the cows grazing beneath the high-trunk apple trees they have."
