We're not sure where this case of Bowmore Vault Ed. No 1 came from, but we're tickled pink to have it back on the shelf! This was launched in 2016 as the first release in a four bottle series. The second edition came out  in 2019, and we are yet to see a third or fourth. It seems Bowmore is more interested in fancy cars nowadays than in finishing what they'd started, so who knows if we ever will? But at this point, all we can say is 'buy it!' Only a handful of bottles available. They won't last long.

Michel Colin was the third generation in his family to grow grapes in Burgundy within the prestigious Côte de Beaune. When he retired in 2003, he handed the property over to his sons, Philippe and Bruno, who split the holdings between them to bottle under separate labels. With the help of his wife, Stéphanie, Bruno farms eight hectares of land, in thirty different parcels scattered over five communes. Bruno bottles Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Santenay, and Maranges. He vinifies nineteen cuvées separately, twelve of which are premier cru! Well, look who's back? This little gem is starting to become a perennial favourite, and for good reason: it's absolutely killer whisky at an inexplicably low price point! According to the folks at Dewar's, this has "been aged, blended together, aged again, then finished in sherry casks." 

There is no overstating how cool it is that they have given us a blend with a high age statement and a robust bottling strength. Way to step into the spotlight, Dewar's. Well done.

Ken Wright Canary Hill Pinot Noir

The seed for a career in wine was planted squarely in the Bourbon Whiskey country of Lexington, Kentucky. While waiting tables to put himself through school, Ken was exposed to fine wines from regions around the world. The passion became avocation when Ken left the Bluegrass State to attend enology and viticulture classes at UC Davis. Eight years were spent winemaking for Ventana Vineyards, Chalone and Talbott Vineyards in Monterey County on California’s central coast.  Friends from the Willamette Valley piqued Ken’s interest in the region when they would visit, and a trip to the Dundee Hills in 1976 convinced him that this was where the finest Pinot noir in North America was being grown. Instrumental in organizing the six new American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) in the Northern Willamette Valley that define in detail the distinct growing areas within the region, he wrote the proposition for the Yamhill-Carlton AVA and served as the association’s first President. He is a true pioneer in Oregon's wine industry, specializing in single vineyard wines that display unique characteristics, much as Pinot Noir does in Burgundy.
