Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout is almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish. Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. A small addition of oats yields great flavour. Popular in the late 1800s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Members of the founding families are still involved in the business to this day. Fuller's is best known as the brewer of London Pride, Chiswick Bitter, ESB and 1845. This English strong ale has a sweet and toasty nose with a good depth. Pours a lovely deep copper with a nice tan head. The flavour - raisin and rich buttery malt leading to a gently alcoholic finish with a lingering moreish maltiness on the back of the tongue.
