Matured in Jim Beam Bourbon barrels before finishing in fresh American oak from Buffalo Trace distillery, this whisky is warm, rich and drowning in vanilla. I had the opportunity to enjoy this whisky all night long at a pre-party with the crew from Bruichladdich the night before the Islay whisky festival, and was blown away by its smooth pleasant character. I'm not an American oak fan, but this one was lovely!

Rosebank is a much-mourned, closed Lowland distillery, formerly situated near the town of Falkirk. Closed by Diageo in 1993 there is no possibility of it rising from the ashes as its buildings have been converted to shops, restaurants and flats. G&M's Tasting Note: Nose: Citrus notes with toasted cocoa aromas. Palate: Dry and spicy initially, floral flavour develops. Body: Light. Finish: A slight sweetness.

Ardbeg Airigh Nam Beist

"Arigh Nam Beist" is ancient Scots gaelic for "shelter of the beast", an appropriate name for this enormous though gentle whisky. Distillers tasting note: "Nose: Smoky, ice cream, fennel, pine nuts and zesty limes. Taste: Peppery, oily mouthfeel. Maple syrup, smoky bacon, antiseptic lozenges, some vanilla, smoked meats and barbecue spices. Finish: Zesty , smoky and intriguing." Jim Murray gave it 95pts and said: "There is only one distillery on earth that could make something so gigantic, yet so delicate.
