Two Brewers Yukon Single Malt Release 30
$104.99
A mariage of whiskies distilled in 2011 and 2012, including both lightly and heavily peated mashes, as well as a blend of two sour mashed from 2011. This is an exciting release from Two Brewers as it is a bonafide 10 year old, with 1/3 of the whisky 10 years old and the rest even older.
Producer Blending Notes
"Most of this whisky is from a 100% peated mash from 2011 (43%) plus a 25% peated mash from 2012 (35%). The last 12% of the release comes from a blend of two sour mashes, both from 2011. The intention here was to use the sour mash and the tang and depth that those mashes bring to compliment the phenolic notes of the peated mash. The two sour mashes used are very distinct and are usually used sparingly in our blending to build a bit of complexity but to not overwhelm. That character was turned way up in Release 22 back in 2020 and is presented a bit more prominently again here, but this time alongside a strong and complex smokiness."
Producer Barreling Info
"The 100% peated whisky was held in the same first fill bourbon barrels for almost 10 years to the day. The 25% peated rested in fresh bourbon barrels for about 2.5 years before being moved to some ISC classic char #2 barrels that we had previously used for about 12 months to house a different peated mash. All of that relatively fresh oak in those two peated mashes results in a depth of oak flavour that counterbalances the higher tones of the peated malt (and the tang of the sour components). The two sour mash components both came from first fill bourbon barrels that sat untouched from 2011 through to the very last days of 2021."
Carn Mor Strictly Ltd Auchentoshan 9 Yr
$117.99
At once one of the most well-known (and mispronounced!) and yet still underrated distilleries in Scotland. I'm not sure how that's possible, but it is. The masses know Auchentoshan, but only the most dedicated of malt fiends know enough to chase indie Auchentoshan, because that's where we really begin to see what this Lowland distillery is capable of.
The label says rum cask finish. I think we can safely assume the spirit slept in ex-Bourbon before being re-racked. And an outurn of 898 bottles at this strength suggests maybe 2-4 casks married here, depending on size.
47.5%, natural colour, and non chill-filtered.
Carn Mor Strictly Ltd Williamson 8 Year
$129.99
Quite possibly the industry's worst-kept secret, Williamson is very obviously named for Bessie Williamson, the first female distillery manager (and eventually owner!), who oversaw the Laphroaig distillery from 1954 'til 1972. There's a very persistent tale, however, that Bessie was largely running show years before it became official. And while it was never really a guessing game, it's nice to see we can now mention on the labels that the malt was, in fact, distilled at Laphroaig.
1,588 bottles. Cask type on the bottle says 'hogshead'; obviously there was more than one, however.

The Macallan A Night On Earth: Scotland
$119.99
Macallan wrapped in a pretty package, meant to be drunk on Hogmanay (Scottish New Year celebration, essentially). That's about it. But ultimately, it doesn't matter, does it? It says Macallan on the label. It will sell before it even hits the shelves.

Highland Park Wild Rose Single Cask
$214.99
A little treat from Highland Park's Single Cask Series. This Wild Rose expression was pulled from Refill Hogshead #3230 and bottled at a blindingly high cask strength exclusively for the Alberta market. And what a colour! Sadly, limited to 288 bottles.
Distilled in 2007 and bottled in 2019. So...depending on the months of distillation and bottling, likely a 12-year-old?
