Distiller's Tasting Note
Nose: Complex, oaky, apples and pears, and a tempting dark toffee sweetness.
Flavour: Dry and assertive, develops quickly to reveal a rich spiciness, combined with a hint of oak and sherried fruit.
Finish: Amazingly smooth for the strength; wonderfully warming and with a lingering smokiness, yet very rounded.
Comment: A great whisky holding all the flavours of all the Glenfarclas in one glass. Being so warming, this is the perfect Hogmanay dram. Don’t be afraid of the strength and order a 210, if you dare!

This 22 year old Lowlander is from a famous closed distillery bottled at 59.8% after maturing in a Refill Hogshead.
Panel's Tasting Note: "The nose neat reminded some of us of an old school study whilst others imagined an elegant ladies morning room. Both have in fact similar images; leather chairs and sofas, old leather bound dusty books, thick Persian oriental antique rugs, fresh cut wood on either side of the fireplace and the scent of potpourri and dried flowers in the air. The taste lively, peppery and sweet. Fruity flavours of blackcurrant, raspberry and blueberry together with Indian spice mix and salted limes. With the addition of water aromas of a herb garden surrounded by a pine forest and the flavours are Manzanilla Sherry trifle, pink grapefruit juice and in the finish liquorice allsorts."

"Founded in 1897, the Tomatin whisky distillery sits at an altitude of 313m just to the west of the village of the same name and quenches its annual five million litre capacity with the pure waters of the Allt-na-Frithe. Closing briefly at the beginning of the 20th century, Tomatin experienced good fortunes and during the 1950s began increasing its stills, installing the last in 1974, bringing its total to an impressive 23, although 11 were dismantled in 2002," according to the Master of Malt website.

Port Ellen distillery closed in 1983 and has since gone on to attain cult-like status among whisky afficionados and collectors for its elegant, fruity and smoky style. Price have been increasing almost exponentially recently as the whisky becomes older and rarer with every passing year. This 30 year old bottlings from Douglas Laing was distilled in February of 1983 and filled into a Refill Hogshead. The whisky was bottled after 30 years in December of 2013, with just 102 bottles filled at a natural cask strength of 53.5%.

Nose: Distinctly old Islay! Softly phenolic, salty, leathery & malty with a whisp of smoke.
Palate: Oily & mouthcoatingly peaty sweet with later ash, soof and soft chewed leather.
Finish: More ash and soot show through subtly around its smoked typical old Islay style.

Nose: at first some melon and tropical fruits, quickly displaced by clean smoke and grassy malt; some leather, dark fruits and spices linger; some of the classic honeyed floral notes.
Palate: a tad punchy, and very fruity, excellent balance, building smoke and spices with a base of creamy vanilla oak and honey; some dark fruits and leather.
Finish: leather, tobacco and chocolate with some malt and citrus fruits; medium finish."

Flavour profile: Deep, rich & dried fruits

Panel's tasting note: "The alluring nose presented apple sours and cherry pieces in dark chocolate, Brazil nuts and coconut macaroons; hints of Bovril, cinnamon, sandalwood and Manuka honey. At full strength, the palate was mouth-drawing and dry but full of flavour – Black Forest gateau, Kirsch, treacle toffee, blackcurrant jam, Campinos, fried sage leaves and brooding eastern spices. The reduced nose suggested smouldering aromatic woods, herbs and incense, with even more cherries, chocolate and nuts. The palate was a trance-inducing mix of teasing textures and delicious tastes of salted caramels, Moffat toffees and vanilla."
