SNORKELLING IN THE BATHTUB: A 10 year old peated Highlander at 54.5% after maturing in a Refill Barrel. "The taste was like the end of a cigar; sweet, smoky and hot. The heat was also like that of hot metal grills barbecuing burgers and sausages."
Panel's Tasting Note: "We were greeted by a warm wood burning fire with some heather and peat being thrown on top. Additional aromas are that of bacon frazzles, rosemary oil, ham steak and dried cured salty salami. In the background is the smell of a plastic paddling pool in the warm sunshine. The taste was like the end of a cigar; sweet, smoky and hot. The heat was also like that of hot metal grills barbecuing burgers and sausages. With water, aromas of grilled chicken with a lemon and coriander marinade next to well-used snorkelling equipment with a hint of salt and chlorine appearing. The taste is now like a citrus refresher sweetie, scented candles, Bavarian smoked cheese and an ashy charcoal note in the finish."

A CALMAC FERRY DRAM: A 17 year old Ileach, an impressive 60.1% at that age, after maturing in a Refill Sherry Butt. "The taste was sweeter – peanut M&Ms and candy-coated fennel seeds – a fine sweet-salty balance with lots of heat, from the biggest distillery on Islay."
Panel's Tasting Note: "The nose gave us fruit salad chews, sherbet lemons, blackberries, lime and oysters, but mainly it was smoke, melting tar, brine, Germolene, coal-tar soap, seaweed, cigar ash, rubber tires and exhaust fumes (like a CalMac ferry). The palate delivered loads of ash, soot and sweet smoke – chilli-roasted nuts and a charcoal barbeque with smoked mackerel and charred prawns. The reduced nose offered first aid boxes, canvas, burnt mackerel skin and something earthy (terracotta plant pots, grow-bags). The taste was sweeter – peanut M&Ms and candy-coated fennel seeds – a fine sweet-salty balance with lots of heat, from the biggest distillery on Islay."

Distiller's Tasting Note
Nose: Sweet, creamy vanilla, with hints of ginger. Spiced mulled wine and pear.
Palate: Rich, creamy, silky-smooth. Warm, rich oak and sherry sweetness, full mouth feel, raisins and soft fruits. Spicy with medium length and a dry finish.
Conclusions: Long, full and firm, slightly nutty.
