This 20 year old Orcadian is from single hogshead bottled 53.5%.
Panel's Tasting Note: "We found the nose curious – toasted pine nuts, toffee, marmite on toast, orange, lemon (squeezed over fish?) cider vinegar, forest floor after rain and muted wood smoke. Fruity aromas dominated with water – apricot jam, hard pears and apples – also refreshers, wet sails, oilskins and hemp rope – strangely maritime. The unreduced palate brought a wee tear to the eye with deep resonances of treacle toffee, charred wood, burnt heather sprigs, leather and oak (someone suggested 'a cooper's apron'). The reduced palate evoked tobacco, Balmoral sauce, heather, oily ropes and 'smoked jelly babies' – leaving pleasant tingles after. The distillery stands above Kirkwall."

MON CHERIE
A 19 year old at 53% from a refill Hogshead distilled at BenRiach's closest neighbor.
Panel's Tasting Note: "A profound, very dark chocolate, nose, reminiscent of Mon Chérie cherry-liqueur chocolates, a hint of wild mint and creamy coffee. A creamy mouthfeel at full strength, with the bitter chocolate theme continuing, joined by light coconut and sultanas: lively but pleasant. Water reveals its Speyside origins – acetone and warm vinyl, creamy and buttery; vanilla ice cream with desiccated coconut. A soft and gentle texture; not as sweet to taste as previously, with traces of orange bitters and later, canvas or hessian; a long finish, with dry coconut in the aftertaste. The distillery used to be connected to BenRiach Distillery, which supplied it with malt, by a railway line."

Producer Description: "This single malt is the result of vatting together a few casks and illustrates very well the diversity and richness of whiskies coming from the Yoichi distillery. It is massively fruity, floral and deep!"
Distiller's Tasting Note
Nose: fresh and sweet. Subtle fruit notes (white peach skin) are very much in evidence, against a background of oily peat. An air of lovely sweetness emerges in which dried fruit (pecan nut), varnish and dried grass (hay and tobacco leaf) notes mingle.
Palate: rich and oily. Bitter-sweet notes (barley sugar and iodine) spring to mlind with remarkable precision. Soft, with flowers, minty aniseed, spices (clove and pepper) and chocolate all developing.
Finish: elegant, with chocolate (bitter chocolate and moccha), coffee and citrus fruit notes all arising. The retro-olfaction carries on, with notes of fresh fruit (white peach)."

Richard Patterson's Tasting Note: ""A dynamic fusion of aromas of blood oranges, crushed apples and pear, and hints of Bulgarian roses, jasmine and coriander. A heart of ripe mandarins, kumquats and pineapple is intertwined with highlights of Madagascan vanilla, creamy caramel and darkest Swiss chocolate."
