The Champagnes from Arnaud Margaine are a new KWM exclusive and they are exceptional. Based in Montagne de Reims he specializes in Chardonnay (90%) although he does have a small plot of Pinot Noir. This small estate (6.5 hectares) was started by his father (Bernard) in the 1950s and is organically farmed. The vines average 35 years of age and the Chardonnay is produced from a clone unique to the area. Demand is high for these wines around the world and as such we received small quantities so get them while you can
750ml mlArnaud is a member of the Club Trésors, a group of 28 winemakers, selected from the finest areas of the Champagne region, and a Special Club champagne is only made in outstanding vintage years. The 2015 comes from four parcels in Villers-Marmery, planted on chalky south and east-facing soils, whose average age is 35 years. About a fifth of the grapes were vinified in oak casks and the remainder in stainless steel. After the first fermentation, the wine also went through malolactic fermentation. After being bottled, the wine was aged for 5 years on its lees and was dosed at 7 g/l on disgorgement. Beautiful creamy mousse, with a full and long, yet refreshingly citrus palate.
