The Champagnes from father-daughter duo Arnaud & Mathilde Margaine are a KWM exclusive, and they are exceptional. With vineyards based in Montagne de Reims, they specialize in Chardonnay (90%) although they also have a small plot of Pinot Noir. This small estate (7 hectares) was started by Arnaud's father (Bernard) in the 1950s and is organically farmed. The vines average 35 years of age, and the Chardonnay is produced from a clone unique to the area.
750 mlMargaine makes his rosé differently from most. The original base blend is created specifically for it, rather than just adding red wine to the non-vintage brut. Rosé is now taken much more seriously in Champagne, and this is a reflection of that care. It's layered and expressive, with terrific depth, a crowd-pleaser of a Champagne. The blend is 79% Chardonnay, 14% Pinot Noir and 6% still red Pinot. Crushed red berry fruit, white flowers, orange peel and white pepper are some of the components that make it so appealing. It's extremely well-balanced. Dosage is 9 grams per litre.
Villers-Marmery is an anomaly in the Montagne de Reims (one of the five sub-regions of Champagne), an island of Chardonnay in a sea of Pinot Noir. This is where the wines of A. Margaine are crafted, and it can be said that these are some of the most hauntingly beautiful and original Champagnes you can drink. The clone of Chardonnay used by Margaine in Villers-Marmery is specific to this area and cannot be found anywhere else in Champagne.
Mathilde Margaine represents the 5th generation and is the first woman to oversee the Margaine estate in Villers-Marmery. She received her Master's in International Wine Trade from the Burgundy School of Business in Dijon. After a year or so working in New York City as a brand ambassador for a Champagne house, she decided to return home and get her hands dirty. Starting by directly working and overseeing the family's vineyards, She now works with her father in all aspects of the Domaine, from the vines to the winery, to the export and marketing duties.
The majority of Margaine’s holdings are in Villers-Marmery, a village planted almost entirely to Chardonnay, with the vineyards averaging roughly 35 years of age. Margaine also has a small parcel of Pinot Noir in the village of Verzy.

Alvarelhão Espumante is a sparkling rosé made from the Alvarelhão grape variety. Alvarelhão is a very old variety (classified in 1790), which today is planted mainly in the north of the Vinho Verde region, especially in the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço, where it has always been part of the red wine scene. The grapes used for this sparkling wine come from small plots of vines in Monção and Melgaço. They are rooted in granite soils, and are grapes that reach a perfect balance with the help of the mountainous group that surrounds this sub-region. The harmony between the sugar content and the acidity necessary for the production of a high-quality sparkling wine.

Larmandier-Bernier is, according writer Peter Liem, "one of the finest producers in the Côte des Blancs", garnering rave reviews not just from Liem but other top critics like Vinous' Antonio Galloni. The wines are unified stylistically, with chalky cores and delicate, lifted citrus and floral notes that seem drawn in pastel. But there are also strong differences, a testament to the distinct personalities within the Côtes des Blancs.
This is a rare saignee method champagne rose. Intense on the palate and delicate on the nose. This cuvée is produced from the Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris grapes picked in Vertus, where the two varieties grow together in the same plot of old vines. It’s made by macerating the berries for a few days, a technique not commonly used in Champagne.
