Decadent Drams Glenlitigious 12 Year

This 2012 vintage Glenfarclas which cannot be named was bottled at 50% and 12 years of age after maturing in a Second Fill Sherry Hogshead. 88pts Whisky Fun

Producer Description

"This is another bottling of our much appreciated and delicious 'Glenlitigious' malt whisky. This is a Speyside single malt made by a famous and highly litigious family, and you all know precisely who we mean. Distilled in 2012, aged for 12 years in a 2nd fill sherry hogshead and bottled at 50% ABV, it is sweet, richly fruity and perilously easy to swig."

Andrew's Tasting Note

Nose: decadent, nutty, and doughy with candied fruits and a backbone of silky vanilla; bakery goods galore: cinnamon rolls, cronuts, cardamom buns, and Mexican donuts; cranachan: aka fresh raspberries and whipped cream over toasted oats; a touch of leather and tobacco, but on the fresh side.

Palate: still decadent, nutty, and doughy, with a silky base of vanilla and honey; the fresh baked sticky goods still abound, and the cranachan is still there too; sweet chocolate fudge, homemade Eatmore, and chocolate dip on soft serve; candied orange, fresh raspberries, and sautéed strawberry; late leather, tobacco, and building spice.

Finish: long, warming, and rich; it ends quite chocolatey with baked sticky buns and soft cigar tobacco.

Comment: this is rather lovely, a tad pricey for its age, but a fine dram nonetheless; with patience, and a little experience, you can taste and feel that telltale sign this is a direct-fired spirit.

88pts Whisky Fun

"The label is quite hilarious! The 12-year-old from 2024 had been excellent (WF 88). Colour: pale gold. Nose: beautiful malt with a sherry presence that’s discreet yet clearly there, sitting in perfect balance between Mars bars, walnut liqueur and chestnut honey. One might call it the epitome of a traditional young own-family Speysider, though perhaps without venturing far enough to invite legal correspondence. With water: triple sec and tobacco appear, both in gentle moderation. Mouth (neat): orange chocolate and English breakfast tea. Very good indeed. With water: still lovely, this time with a touch of sweet chestnut purée and vanilla. Finish: fairly long, superbly balanced and highly convincing on the maltiness front. Comments: why aren’t all official 12-year-old Speyside malts this good? I see no reason not to award it the same score as last year. SGP:551 - 88 points."
