About The Whisky Trail

"This Whisky Trail range has been inspired by Scotland’s 2003 Land Reform Act: Freedom to Roam. This Act gives everyone the right to access the countryside for recreational and educational purposes. There are 28 single cask bottlings that are a part of this range, and highlight the scenes found while exploring Scotland’s awe-inspiring landscape. Only whiskies that demonstrate the most exceptional characteristics are bottled as part of the Whisky Trail range - each cask as unique as a fingerprint, no two expressions will ever be the same. To ensure each whisky maintains its full flavour and cask character, we never chill-filter or add colour."

Why Highland Cows (Coos)

"Highland Cows are known for their physical attributes and being indigenous to Scotland. They are viewed as symbols of Scotland’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty."

Andrew's Tasting Note

Nose: soft, toasty, and waxy with delicate fruits; Werther's Originals, beer nuts, and maple coated walnuts; buttery fresh baked croissants and napoleons dusted in powdered sugar; bright and tart citrus fruits; linseed oil window putty and moist modelling clay.

Palate: decadent, toasty, and fruity with a coating, waxy mouthfeel; the French pastries are still there, pain au chocolate dusted in powdered sugar, napoleons with fresh raspberries, and a little baklava to add to the mix; orange and grapefruit citrus tones, but with only a tinge of bitterness; more Werther's Originals, toffee chews, and a little white chocolate to round things out; late nutty tones and linseed oil.

Finish: fresh, fruity, and toasty with loads of caramel, toffee and pastries; lingering citrus fruits, creamed honey, and candied nuts.

Comment: the nose hinted at a slight medicinal profile (common in grain whisky), but I found none of it on the palate; this is fresh, fruity, and elegant without any of the bitter oak notes often found in whiskies of this age; a gorgeous and very moreish single grain!

Producer Tasting Note

Nose: Beeswax, coconut, shortbread, old leather-bound books, marzipan, old-fashioned toffees.

Palate: Rich and decadent, vanilla mille-feuille dusted with desiccated coconut, subtle vanilla oak spice. White chocolate covered coconut bar.

Finish: Honeycomb, vanilla wafers. Fresh coconut.
