Mossburn Speyside No.2 Blended Malt

$71.99

This Blended Malt is a marriage of Speyside single malts, finished in Mossburn's  Cask Bill #2, Oloroso Sherry Butts with heavily charred Virgin American Oak heads. 46%. Exclusive to KWM!

Clean light sherry and oaky spice on the nose with vanilla and heathery notes coming through as it develops in the glass. The heavily charred barrel ends and oloroso influence have combined to give a rich flavour without any sense of a cloying or over-sweetened profile. Light citrusy spice, white pepper and a touch of exotic fruit come to the front before the sherry influence rolls it all back together again.Clean light sherry and oaky spice on the nose with vanilla and heathery notes coming through as it develops in the glass. Andrew's Tasting Note

Nose: nutty, fruity, and spicy with floral top notes; dewy summer flowers, soft leather, dark chocolate, and sweet and sour pork; orange Starbursts, craisins, and cooked raisins.

Palate: rich, nutty, and spicy with a base of chewy malt and floral top notes; Demerara sugars, Dutch licorice, and earthy tobacco; more orange, with burnt raisins, and grilled watermelon; firm leather and loads of spice: cardamom, clove, fennel, and anise.

Finish: warming, spicy, and rich; fading sugars, leather, tobacco, and chocolate;

Comment: this is big, nutty, and sherried with a firm spicy backbone; it is also a bargain for $72.

Producer Tasting Note

"No doubting the signature Island smoke and spice immediately apparent on the nose, but this is more a seductive clove and pot-pourri spice rather than medicinal coastal woodsmoke. The oak influence is more visible in the flavour with a touch of tannin and spice on the initial taste which mellows with heathery dried fruit and more pepper coming through later. The finish is long with a little dry fiery kick at the close."
