Philippe Jaboulet and his son, Vincent, carry on long-established family winemaking traditions at Domaine Philippe & Vincent Jaboulet in Crozes-Hermitage. Located in the northern Rhône Valley about one mile south of Tain l’Hermitage, the domaine was founded in 2006 following the sale of Maison Paul Jaboulet Ainé, where Philippe managed the family’s vineyards and handled all grape purchasing.
After the sale, Philippe and Vincent retained about 32 acres of the family’s vineyards, including most notably a parcel of the original Thalabert vineyard, which is situated in the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. (Philippe and Vincent Jaboulet acquired another 37 acres to add to the newly formed domaine, including a small plot in Cornas-1.7 acres.)

The history of Domaine de Castelnau is a long one, going all the way back to the 13th century when the property was owned by the Seigneurs (Lords) de Guers. Today owned by Christophe and Beatrice Muret, the winery sits in the heart of the Picpoul de Pinet appellation between Béziers and Montpellier. It’s one of only 20 domaines in the area that are independently owned. Spread across 97 hectares, about 13 hectares of the estate's vineyards are dedicated to the cultivation of Picpoul. The winemaking regime is overseen by oenologist François Prinsloo, who blends modern techniques with traditional winemaking principles.
This Viognier is pale straw in appearance with fresh notes of white peach, pear and almond.

Guillaume Michaut has been surrounded by vineyards and the history of Chablis since childhood. His grandfather was an early believer in the wines of Chablis and worked proudly to expand the Chablis appellation to his village of Beines and beyond. By the 1960s, he was able to pass a rather large holding of vineyards down to his sons. As a teenager, Guillaume worked alongside his father and uncles in the vineyards and joined the family domaine in 2004. However, after his father passed away, Guillaume realized that his vision was starkly different from that of his uncles, and decided to set out on his own with his small share of family vines back in 2018. Subtle flowery blend, with tangy citrus notes, palate hanging from a fresh and chiseled line, this cuvée is a beautiful incursion into the terroir of Chablis.

Just east of Sancerre is the village of Chavignol, home of Domaine Paul Thomas. It is a small estate on the slopes of the Les Mont Damnés, from which they produce beautiful wines from the deepest, purest outcropping of Kimmeridgean limestone in Chavignol. Their vineyards are located on the south-facing slopes of a steep hill, and at harvest, each basket of grapes must be carried by hand down the steep paths. The end result is worth the hard work, however, as the vineyards yield wines with remarkable concentration and purity. The winery’s particular specialty is their Sancerre Blanc “Les Comtesses,” a 1.5-hectare monopole within Les Mont Damnés.

Aline Beauné is a winemaker to watch. More and more people are looking outside the main Côte of Burgundy for wines that mortals can afford, and this attention is drawing talent out of these regions. Aline has been making wine at the top tier in Santenay for over a decade, but all the while her parents have been renting out a familial plot in Montagny. In 2018, the contract with the previous tenants on 5 HA of prime vineyard land expired. Aline jumped at the opportunity to take over these vines and start her own domaine. The previous tenants were farming responsibly, but Aline felt the land had more to offer. She is transitioning to organic farming and already using some biodynamic treatments to ease this transition for the vines.
