This tiny family-run winery is one of our most beloved estates. The Schaefer family has been growing grapes in Graach since 1121. They are masters of the 'fruitier' style of Riesling and this is unmistakable in recent vintages. It's incredibly finessed with a restrained lushness and mouthwatering salinity, charismatic and impossibly complex. The plots are located on steep slate slopes and consist of up to 100-year-old, ungrafted vines. Their wines regularly rack up ratings on par with the very best Germany has to offer.
Ursa Major Riesling

From the winemaker: Grown at Mariposa Vineyard from the Similkameen Valley. The soil is made up of various glacial rock formations, primarily stony and silty loam. Heat consistently reflects off of the giant rock formations, so heat is still emitted long after the sun sets. There is a constant wind that rushes through the narrow valley that evaporates any moisture, so mildew and pest pressure is very low. I do not farm this vineyard, this is a negociant wine. I was not allowed to choose picking dates, I was told by the grower that the grapes would just show up at my doorstep! The bins showed up approximately 60-80% affected with botrytis! So I leaned into it. Direct pressed in an open system press, left to settle overnight. The next day the juice was racked into two neutral French oak barrels and two stainless steel barrels. The wine went through a very slow ambient ferment and secondary ferment in barrels. It was left to age in barrels for 10 months on lees. The wine was filtered and then bottled with approximately 30ppm of sulphur.

Astobiza is situated within the Txakoli de Álava DO, and the wines are made exclusively with grapes produced from the estate. The vineyard is located in the small rural municipality of Oquendo, in the province of Álava, about 30 minutes from Bilbao, on a 10-hectare estate divided into 7 micro-plots. Located 250 meters above sea level, it is protected by mountains and far from the bottom of the valley, thus sheltering it from fog and winter frost. 100% of their grapes come from autochthonous varieties, mainly Ondarrabi Zuri, some Ondarrabi Zuri Zerratie (Petit Corbu), and a small plot of Izkiriota (also known as Gros Manseng).

The Huber family has wine growing roots dating back more than 220 years. Today the winery in Reichersdorf is in its 10th generation, run by Markus Huber. Joh. Jos. Prüm needs no introduction to Riesling lovers, having already become a Mosel icon during the nearly five decades during which its namesake’s son Sebastien was in charge. Katharina Prüm has been active alongside her father, Manfred, since early in the new millennium, and the two of them perpetuate a house style that has itself become a Mosel archetype: wines of delicacy and restrained sweetness, often strongly marked in youth by yeasty and otherwise fermentative aromas, and tingling with dissolved CO2. Their longevity is legendary, and the Prüms personally don’t care to drink their own wines – even the Kabinetts – with less than a dozen, and usually many more, years in bottle. The aromas of youthful Prüm wines make it obvious that fermentation here is entirely spontaneous. Manfred makes no secret of his longstanding disinterest in legally dry wines.

Modernista wines are a project of Joaquim and Fran López, produced at Catedral Delvi in Spain's Catalonia region. The cathedral is an amazing work of architecture inspired by Gaudi. Since the early 1990s, winemaker Francis Blanchet has crafted a special selection of pure Sauvignon Blanc from fruit selected from flint-rich vineyards for us. This unique terroir announces itself explosively: knock two vineyard stones together and you can’t help but be bowled over by the aroma of firecracker smoke. Indeed, fumé means “smoked” in French, which gives you more than a hint of why Sauvignon Blanc from producers like Blanchet in this charmed appellation across the river from Sancerre is so energetic and mineral-driven. In addition to a special flint-soil selection, Francis has further identified unique plots of land—whether with older, massal selection vines or ‘Kriotine,’ for example, from chalky limestone soils—and then has bottled them separately. Founded in 1947, Nik Weis – St. Urbans-Hof has become one of the most important and classic wineries in the Mosel region. Since 2000, the Riesling winery is a member of Germany’s renowned VDP (Association of German Quality Wine Estates).
