Moric Blaufrankisch Reserve

$79.99

David Schildknecht, the Austrian specialist for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, describes Roland Velich and his Moric wines this way: "Roland Velich is no longer working with his brother Heinz at the family estate in Apetlon, but is pursuing his dream, working with old vines in the heart of “Blaufrankisch country” – Mittelburgenland, specifically Lutzmannsburg and Neckenmarkt.
(Only his winery is located in Grosshoflein.)
His are wines in a style you will not encounter anywhere else in Austria: Blaufrankisch vinified as if it were Grand Cru Burgundy, and from hillsides (including terraces) and pre-clonal vines the like of which you will not find being cultivated in most of Mittelburgenland. One sip is an Oz experience (and I don’t mean Aussie, mates!). From his dreams to his vines to his vinification, to his retro label, Velich is in a world of his own. He calls his project “Blaufrankisch Unplugged” (and Moric – the derivation of which I shall explain another time – is pronounced like “Moritz”). "

Aecht Schlenkerla Erle Schwarzbier

$6.19

Producer's notes:

For our Aecht Schlenkerla Erle black lager we use a very special smoked malt. This is not dried over beech wood fire, as is usually the case, but over fire made of alder wood. The alder smoked malt brings a fine, complex smoky flavor to the beer – less strong and spicy than in our classic smoked beer. A high roasted malt content provides a pronounced roasted aroma and the dark, almost black color. At 4.2% abv, Aecht Schlenkerla Erle has slightly less alcohol, but is strong in flavor.

Galipette Cidre Biologique

$6.99

4% ABV

Producer Description

"GALIPETTE BIOLOGIQUE is our organic cuvée, made from 100% organic cider apples. It has an exciting wildflower character that naturally varies with the seasons in authentic organic style. The assemblage majors on bitter-sweet apples with just a hint of sweet varieties, such as Carting, Sweet Moen and Belle Fille de la Manche, all native to the centuries-old orchards of Normandy. Light fermentation preserves the natural floral aromas and yields a lower alcohol level. Sweeter on the nose and true to the Normandy style of cider, enjoy this refreshing feel-good fizz on a sunny summer’s day, or explore its intriguing sweet-savoury nature with a fresh goat’s cheese."
