False Bay Chenin Blanc
$21.99
after South Africa’s most iconic bay, which frames much of the country’s premium winelands, False Bay Vineyards was borne out of a desire to make ‘real’ wine affordable.
Back in 1994, long before founding Waterkloof (his biodynamic vineyard overlooking False Bay), Paul Boutinot came to the Western Cape to seek out and rescue grapes from old, balanced and under-appreciated vineyards. These treasures were otherwise destined to be lost in the large cooperative blends that were dominating South Africa’s wine industry back then.
Unusually for that time, Paul transformed those Cape gems into wines with a minimum of intervention: Wild yeast ferments, no acid additions…you know the drill. A familiar story to many ‘real wine’ lovers now, but back then he was swimming against the tide. Even today, making wine this way at the price level is almost unheard of.
Today the ingredients remain the same for Waterkloof’s Cellar Master Nadia Barnard: Fantastic coastal fruit, old vines and wild yeast abound, with additions avoided.
Shelter Point 10 Year Single Malt
$114.99
Big changes going on at Shelter Point. New owners, new management, new vision. While we're a little sad about the changing of the guard, we're also keen to see what comes next for this little island distillery. An infusion of new blood could mean very exciting times ahead.
But in the meantime, let's celebrate a coming of age! 10-year-old single malt that came from the first year of production. We've been patiently waiting for this moment. Well... some of us not so patiently, actually. Hopefully, this 10-year-old becomes the distillery's new flagship expression. Fingers crossed.
Natural colour, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 46% abv.

It is a Tempranillo-focused blend, with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, that shows a powerful yet elegant character. Full of red fruits, wood spice and earth. Producer's notes:
DRIP Tiramisu Coffee Stout out now! We went ahead and made an executive decision not to put mascarpone in this. For your benefit. But we did use ladyfingers, some tasty Peruvian beans from our pals at @agroroasters plus cacao, and brown sugar, and a nice malt base to give you that dessert fix.
