Sylvain Martel completed his winemaking training in the Southern Rhone and spent ten years running a small organic estate in the Ardeche. He relocated to Beaujolais, after the Graillot family of Crozes-Hermitage brought him on board to help establish and manage Domaine de Fa. As fate would have it, Sylvain met Anne-Sophie Dubois (we carry her wines as well) in 2016 and settled down in Fleurie. By 2018 he was ready to start his own project and purchased a 1.3ha plot of 45 year old Gamay vines on a dramatic steep slope at 450m altitude in the lieu-dit of Bessay in the western part of Julienas. A terroir of blue stones, the tree-lined vineyard is planted to a high density, cultivation is organic and the yields are kept low (25hl/ha).

Pietradolce Santo Spirito Etna Rosso

Santo Spirito Etna Rosso is a wine obtained from Nerello Mascalese grapes from a pre-phylloxera vineyard that was brought to light and restored during land reclamation work. This vineyard is located in the highest part of the Contrada Santo Spirito at 900 meters above sea level. It is a very windy promontory with marked temperature variations and sandy soils, with abundant volcanic rock.
The harvest takes place in the second half of October. The crushing and destemming is followed by a maceration of approximately 18 days in raw cement tulip tanks. The 14-month aging in oak barrels is followed by maturation in the bottle. The result is a wine with an ample bouquet, which alternates spicy notes with red berries. The taste is vibrant, with distinctive elegance and personality, like drinking a bottle of great Burgundy.
