The Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004, encircles the Podere Forte. The estate was founded in 1997 by Pasquale Forte, a visionary entrepreneur who has created a balanced system where every element complements the others, following the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. The old concept of the corte romana has been recreated on the 500-ha estate: a place where people, plants and animals coexist in harmony and sustainable self-sufficiency. Wine is the main focus, but Podere Forte is also synonymous with the breeding of Cinta Senese pigs, Chianina cattle and Suffolk sheep, as well as various other farm animals, all living on biodynamic feed. Podere Forte produces its own fertilizers and compost using vine prunings and fallen timber from the woods. The pigs eat acorns and chestnuts in the woods where they roam freely, the bees pollinate the flowers and aromatic herbs in the botanic garden where the hives are. The olive groves cover around 26 hectares and in 2020 production of the first varietal oil, from the Frantoio variety, started.

Because the wine culture of several other countries also inspire us, respect for those is also very important to us. Without free expression progress towards our goal would be impossible. We also believe that biological and cultural diversity are inherently enriching. The style of the Heimann family’s classic wines was developed by Ágnes and Zoltán Heimann. The first decade of the 21st century was dedicated to finding the special Heimann style: we brought top quality cuttings of Cabernet Franc and Merlot from Bordeaux and planted them on the Porkoláb-völgy plateau. When in 2002-2003 the first monopole vineyard of the family, the 11 ha Bati Kereszt was planted a significant acreage was dedicated to Viognier, the one and only white variety of the estate. The west facing slopes were planted with Tannat from Basque Country and Sagrantino from Umbria. These latter varieties give an individual touch to the character of the top of the range wines: Franciscus and Barbár.

Since its first release in 1984, the venerable Midleton Very Rare has been a blend of pot still and grain whisky that is produced at the new Midleton Distillery in East Cork. The releases of Very Rare are usually aged in ex-Bourbon casks, giving it a somewhat different twist than the more sherry-driven Redbreast Irish Whiskey range.

The blend includes 2005 pot still rum from New Yarmouth, 2005 pot still rum from Long Pond, 2008 pot still rum, and 2007 column and pot still rum from Clarendon. Only 5188 bottles of this 13-year-old were filled at a strength of 46%.
