This is an Irish mystery malt, with the original distillery behind the whiskey being kept secret. Walsh Whiskey - the company behind The Irishman and Writer's Tears brands - does not currently have a distillery, though one is in planning with the hope to open in 2026. Rumours usually go with the whiskey originally coming from Midleton Distillery or perhaps Bushmills Distillery. Only 5,000 bottles are released a year. The triple-distilled whiskey is bottled at 43% after maturing for at least 12 years in ex-Bourbon casks.

The Irish, being Irish, decided that they didn't need to use malted barley for the entirety of the mash used to distill whiskey and started adding portions of unmalted barley.
