Hector and Pablo Durigutti were born in Mendoza, the cradle of Argentinian wine and were raised together. Their childhood and their home were always connected to a sensorial world, with aromas, ingredients and flavours that, over time, motivated them to choose the path to become enologists. As adults, they would find these familiar memories and similar passions. In 2002 they dedicated their efforts to the creation of a small family winey. Today the brothers have evolved to form a new generation of winemakers, leading an evolutionary change in Argentina’s viticulture. Their range includes the value-driven Abeja wines and the upper-tier Las Compuertas offerings produced from the oldest vineyard sites.

This blend is created from the best varieties of the old vineyards at Finca Victoria. The result is the purest expression of the Las Compuertas terroir. It is a celebration of life, paying homage to Héctor and Pablo Durigutti’s mother, Victoria.  A delicious blend of 40% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Franc, 27% Petit Verdot, and 3% Cordisco. The vines date from 1914 and after a double grape selection, they are fermented and aged in second use 600 Litre French Oak Barrels for 12 months and then cement eggs for another 26 months. 

Meinklang Red

Meinklang is a leader in biodynamic viticulture in Austria. The Meinklang vineyards are found in eastern Austria close to the Hungarian border. This gutsy red is a blend of Blaufrankisch (50%), Zweigelt (40%), and Sankt Laurent (10%) planted on sandy loam with shallow rocky topsoil. The grapes are partially destemmed into stainless steel where fermentation is carried out semi-carbonically. The wine then rests for six months in tank before being racked and bottled with 30ppm of sulphur. 12% ABV

Now available in the perfect little bottle! A grower-producer in the heart of Chigny-les-Rose, Giles Dumangin has champagne coursing through his veins. Dating back to the 1650's, the Dumangin's have always worked with the vines of Champagne, but it wasn't until 1890 when Hippolyte Dumangin created Champagne Dumangin in the 1er Cru vineyards of Chigny-les-Roses. Five generations later, Champagne Dumangin is producing an array of wines, from their classic feminine style to their newer, high-end cuvees. This Cuvee 17 is (almost) an equal blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, and is one of their newest additions to their line. Cuvee 17 is a natural style champagne, but this is serious wine! With 33% of the bottle consisting of reserve wine, it creates a fierce complexity and opulent notes of elderflower, banana, lemon cream and hints of brioche. Perfect as an aperitif, with appetizers or with fresh seafood.

Poggio al Sole Chiara Bianco Toscana

There's not a lot of Chardonnay planted in Tuscany, being a French transplant and all, but this example from one of our favourite Tuscan producers makes you wonder why they don't plant more. While this organic wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation, it's kept on the lees for an extended period for added complexity. Expect a lively and fresh white wine that can pair with goat cheese, arugula pizza, salads, or all on its own on a summer day when you need a lift!

Poggio al Sole Chianti Casasilia Reserva

From a prized single vineyard at high elevation, Casasilia (the estate's original name) is the winery’s most structured and age-worthy wine. 100% Sangiovese, aged in large oak casks for 18 months, it shows layered aromas of dark cherry, fennel seed, tobacco leaf, with a hint of Tuscan underbrush. It's deep, refined, and savoury Chianti Classico Gran Sezelione, ideal for the cellar, but drinkable now with a good decant. Pair with bistecca alla Fiorentina, slow-cooked lamb, or spaghetti with fresh truffles. We have some magnums and 3-litre bottles as well, ideal for the cellar. The 2021 vintage is widely considered as one of the best ever in Chianti.

Lamura Pinot Grigio

Always in the running for our best-selling white, especially in the summer, and as of 2021 it's certified organic! Its straw yellow in colour, with some copper reflections that revoke the typical colour of the grape. This wine has an intense bouquet of fruits such as apple, melon and citrus, matched well with more delicate mineral aromas. Fresh and zesty, it pairs well with seafood and fish.

Aubuisieres Le Marigny Sec

Formerly known as Domaine Bernard Fouquet, until Bernard retired in 2021, handing the reins to Charles Lesaffre. Charles is the grandson of Gérald Bruley des Varannes, the man from whom Bernard's father André acquired his first vineyards, thereby bringing the story of the Domaine full circle. An avid practitioner of viticulture and oenology, Charles joined Bernard as an associate in 2019. Two years into his tenure, Charles has emphasized organic and biodynamic practices. Charles has continued, as Bernard before him, to capture the unique Vouvray mineral tones, along with the wonderfully balanced expression of fruit of the Chenin Blanc grape, in his wines.

Le Marigny from Domaine des Aubuisieres is a 100% Chenin Blanc from the Loire that is undergoes partial oak fermentation. It's a rich single-vineyard Chenin with a fine balance of ripe apple and peach flavours, racy acidity and subtle spice notes from oak fermentation and lees ageing. Lovely now as a match for creamy pork dishes, but it will cellar well too.

Poggio al Sole Syrah

Second-generation winemaker Johannes Davaz isn't from Tavernelle. Originally, he worked for his father in the family's Swiss vineyards and wine cellar before going to college to study enology. Years later, when the Davaz family took over the Poggio al Sole estate, Johannes (known locally as "Giovanni") undertook the responsibility of overseeing the new venture. There are not a lot of Chianti producers making syrah but when we first tasted this we wondered why. Stylistically, it's closer to the Rhone style than an Aussie shiraz. There's a great interplay of fruit and savouriness on the nose, with ripe cherry, pepper and cloves as well as a hint of violets. Structured on the palate, starts with lots of juice, ripe tannins, dancing acidity, savoury, persistent finish. Organic and vegan-friendly.

A fantastic moelleux (the term for sweet chenin blanc from the Loire Valley), this dessert wine is vibrant, with notes of baked apple, honey and a touch of almond. Perfect to pair with pate, foie gras, cheese or fruit pies. It's sweet but far from cloying, and organic.
