This domaine has expanded considerably since the time Serge Dagueneau took on his handful of hectares. Today, there are 23 hectares of vines, of which 18 hectares are dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc in the Pouilly-Fumé appellation. Many of the vines are ancient, with some up to one hundred years old. Most of these vines are planted on Kimmeridgian marl, one of the classic terroirs of the Pouilly-Fumé and Pouilly-sur-Loire appellations. He is the nephew of the late Didier Dagueneau, a legend in the wine world.

This winery begins with a tale of two brothers - Walter and Antonio Mastroberardino -who parted ways, with Antonio acquiring the winery and Walter acquiring the vineyards (renamed as Terradora). The Terredora di Paolo estate is located on the hills of Irpinia surrounding the valleys of the Sabato and Calore rivers. With about 180 hectares of vineyards, they rank among the most prestigious producers in Southern Italy. The South of Italy is one of the most interesting wine areas in the country and Campania, and especially the Irpinia region, produces wines from native grape varieties such as Aglianico, Fiano, Greco, Piedirosso and Falanghina, all of which are brimming with personality. Aglianico has been called the Barolo of the South for its power and its ability to age for many years. In the 1920s, the Daddi family purchased the castle and its surroundings, and in their attentive care, it would remain for almost 100 years. Francesco Daddi took the reins of the family estate in 1997 and worked tirelessly at making incremental improvements, not the least of which was the return to the organic viticulture of his ancestors. He also worked closely with renowned architect Alessandro Loni Coppedè to restore crumbled portions of the castle and the gardens to their former glory. Francesco is mild-mannered and affable, the very definition of a gentleman. But he harbours a perfectionist streak that has led to world-class wine. The vineyards surround the Castello at altitudes ranging from 300 to 500 meters, with south and southwest exposure, and marl and chalk soils. They grow primarily Sangiovese, the most vital grape to Tuscany, along with small plots of other native varieties. The vines’ excellent exposure combined with the deftly tempered use of oak in the cellar makes for formidable incarnations of Chianti Classico, structured and powerful yet subtle and grounded.
